Probably not... unless you switch to dressage... and no, never, but I tried mine on and thought I looked like a pin head, so it's o.k.

Nope but that's because they have improved safety requirements ;). And I much prefer the look of today's helmets over the ones of years gone by (I started riding in the early 70's so I'm quite familiar with the older ones :D). :)

I can't STAND the new helmets! I look like a bobblehead! So wish we could have the old helmets back with no harness. I have an oval head so it's very hard to find a helmet that fits comfortably.

I'm sure someday they'll come up with some revolutionary impact material thats as thick as a peice of paper or some such thing and we can once again wear our beloved Patey type helmets. But until then I believe we're stuck with the bobble head look.

Sure, you can wear a top hat. Just take up foxhunting, get your horse qualified, and you can show at the Warrenton Horse Show during Hunt Night on Sunday. Top hats are to be worn if you are wearing a shadbelly. You'll see lots of them in the Corinthian class.

Or, conversely, take up sidesaddle and at least get to wear it for the u/s. ;)

That's exactly what I was thinking! What I really want to know is when we'll stoping having helmets with skunk stripes - or in the case of the speedair, fly faces.

Maybe when people realize that if you don't hold your head straight the stripe makes it completely obvious from a mile away. Stupid things are hideous.

I wear a Charles Owens at the racetrack, and got called an alien, just today. I informed them I was at least from a smarter planet then they were:lol: And wanted to stay that way.

I miss the old traditions too... and its what I love about the foxhunting world..it's still there and very strong.

Too bad the traditional hats can't look good and be as safe as the certified ones... safety for fashion and flair sometimes is traded off there.

I like some of the new helmets even though they all look horrible on me (oval face and long oval head don't mix well, sigh) like the CO Hampton--it's such a classic looking helmet and that is why I bought it. Some stores still sell the old hunt caps without harnesses. Personally, I'd rather wear no helmet or a ball cap than one of the old ones--they looked pretty awful on me too. At least they're protecting our heads now.

I have the Hampton too. It's a godsend because of the shape - every other helmet I've had pinches my temples and gives me migranes. :(

I just want the chin cup back. I have a huge gag reflex and can't stand to have anything under my chin or close to my neck. I have to wear the chinstrap on my chin.
