So my 4 yr old mare has warts, right by her eye. She had one, and then all the sudden there were more. I took her to the vet this past friday and she said that they couldn't put meds on them because of how close they were to her eye. She is out 24\7 with a fly mask (and she's hard to catch) so I don't really get a chance to look at them every day.

When I searched I noticed a few other threads about this, so are they more common in the summer?

Does anyone have a "safe" home remedy I can try to get rid of them with? They are all around her right eye and are pretty close to it. The vet didn't feel like they would affect her eye\eye sight. I really don't want to "just leave it alone" because they are really....not good looking.

I've never dealt with this before, so feel really clueless.

Thanks for your help in advance!!!!

I'd talk to a vet first WRT using near the eyes, but one of my barn-mates seems to have fixed a really ugly case of them on her horse's muzzle using Ivermectin applied topically. They are not totally gone, but pretty much so, and there are fewer of them every day.

If they are plain warts they will leave in around 16-22 weeks,,,treated or untreated, Its the sarcoids that can be an issue. I am not sure you tell one from the other other tha waiting it out. My vet was not sure what we had so for now we are waiting. If our's is a sarcoid it is in a bad place to treat. So I will tell you what I have been told...wait.

I'm not sure why they had to choose right by her eye, but going to a horse show in september could get interesting if they are still there :)

Unless anyone has other ideas i'll just wait it out!

THANKS!!!

You might want to look into Thuja Homeopathic Remedy. Google Thuja occidentalis Homeopathy and you'll find lots of info on it.
