I have a 17.1 OTTB that I'm pretty sure could use some.
I took this fellah on at the end of March this year to keep Clumpy company.
Clumpy has just passed away, and "Sooke" is doing very well for now; but really doesn't like the sound of rain on the barn roof. Can anyone suggest from experience what I could make for him to see him through until I can pick up something that's actually made for such a purpose?

Rolled cotton. You can buy some in the pharmacy if you don't have any on hand-rip off a section and roll into a ball. I dye about 1/2 pound black every year and that's my show ear plugs for the year.

An old pair of pantyhose, cut to size and wadded up, will also work in a pinch.

LOVE earplugs for an anxious horse.

Thanks a million! He lives right under my nose here so I'm watching him pretty closely for separation stress but allowing him to acclimatize himself to this new situation without interfering unecessarily. He's come a very long wat since I've had him and he's had a hock fracture(last Aug) that's healed fairly well but I don't want him torqueing around on it. I'm on my way to get some cotton wadding. I'll let you know how it goes!

ditto. they don't come out as easily and when they do the neon colors make them easy to find!

Last night I drove to four different places looking for cotton wadding. No dice.
I even considered a particular feminine product (yeah, you heard me) string and all but quickly changed my mind. I haven't worn pantyhose since 1996 and my cats have hidden all their toys. Phoooey. Then the lightbulb moment came and I ripped the sheet up off my bed and cut a section off of my "egg crate foamie" and fashioned a perfect pair. I got them in his ears with suprisingly little fuss and then after all that; the new farrier comes and he was good as gold without them even though it started to rain. Go figure. I guess I've been so keyed up lately that I just expected the worst to happen,
but today even hail on the metal roof of the barn probably wouldn't have fazed him. What a champ.
