I wear it now, a few hard falls convinced me, even though I think mine is pretty bulky.
Are there some with great protection, yet less bulk? If I plan to ride in it alot, I would like to get one that fit a bit 'closer'.
Thanks.

I am very pleased with the Outlyne by Airowear. Fits close, great protection. Or so the raters say. Fortunately I haven't discovered this for myself.

This looks like a good thread to ask my question!
Upper body vests specifically for riding seem pretty expensive and the ones I've seen are bulky, too.
Has anyone ever made use of an upper body vest from a different contact sport?
I've seem some from ice/roller hockey that obviously are designed for some very serious impact, but which seem to be lighter, less bulky and less expensive. Hockey players kick out a lot of heat and perspiration under all the pads, so anything that insulates body heat is not acceptable to them, and I've been told that heat retention is a serious drawback to some vests made specifically for riding.

Adamantane, great ??? Kind of what I was after. I never wore a vest - fox hunted, trail, some local h/j shows. Now that I event, just local, I bought one. I got the least expensive one because I only planned on wearing it as necessary, BUT, have had a few bad falls, and maybe want to rethink it. Mine is really bulky - once I'm riding, it isn't soooo bad, but I wouldn't mind a 'sleeker' one.
I wouldn't be opposed to wearing it on trails, especially on greenies, and jumping anything. I guess it's a sign of aging, not sure I like it.....
More suggestions on comfy ones??

Although they are being shunned because they are not "approved" I LOVE my Tipperary Vest. What I lose in impact protection I gain in flexibility, ability to breathe, relative coolness, and range of mobility. Far and above the most comfortable vest!

I have a CO Ultralite which is a Beta 3, but quite bulky. Will use it for anything xc as I feel it's safer. Just got a Tipperary to wear while trail riding, jumping at home, etc. Far more comfy and still feel somewhat protected. My other half has really been on me regarding safety since I had a baby 4 months ago, so any type of vest makes him happy! Plus it'll be worth it if I take a tumble as I'm still getting my balance back post-baby! I have a lot of back issues, so hopefully either one will help that area in case of a fall!
