I just had a friend tell me today that she has successfully used the Mighty Mend-it putty on her horses' outer hoof wall. Has anybody else done the same, or heard of this? My gelding has a tiny crack on his right front, which is almost grown out, but begins to be stressed about 4 weeks post-trim. I'm tempted...

Why not just trim at 4 weeks until the crack is gone?

That's what we're already doing. I'm also doing some slight rasping weekly, no enough to change anything, but he's an OTTB (4 months off track) that is growing alot of toe, but no heel. He had a slight bit of seedy toe in the offending foot, but the Clean Trax has taken good care of that. I've changed his environment, so he's on solid packed clay pastureland (no rocks) with access to the stone dust arena and barnyard. My place is pretty mud-free except when we get 7" in one week...he does come into the stall at night and I turn him out in Simple Boots when the footing is too dry/hard. I keep them off if we've had a enough of a shower to soften up the footing a little. I feel like I'm doing everything possible, and we're definately making good progress. He's got great feet (structurally) otherwise, so it looks like we'll be able to keep him barefoot. I could proabably slap some front shoes on him to help now, but I think it would hinder things in the long-run.
