View Full Version : Riding boots that buckle closed on the side?
TB or not TB?

My trainer has the neatest pair of riding boots - they wrap around your leg and buckle on the side, so no pulling, laces, zippers or anything. I didn't catch the brand and she doesn't remember where she got them. Anyone know where I might find something like this?! They are super cool and I think would fit me better since I have trouble with off the rack boots.

They're made by Dehner. Am I your trainer? :)

Like this? I think they're gorgeous, but I'm stuck with my $15 consignment field boots until I win the lottery :)

TB or not TB?

Wow you guys are awesome! I looked everywhere and the closest thing I could find were polo boots. Apparently these are cavalry style boots. I think they are snazzy! Are they legal, do you all think? I can't see why they wouldn't be.
Here are the Dehner's for all who are curious: http://www.dehner.com/customboots_riding.html scroll down to 3 buckle field boot.
I was all happy and excited until I saw the price. Of course! Try to skimp and not get custom and end up with... custom. The Horse County version was 2/3 of the cost, but I couldn't figure out if they were custom as well.
A slightly less expensive version, but I'm not familiar with the company: http://motorcowboy.zoovy.com/product/NEW31/_3_Buckle_Field_Boot_Made_to_Your_Measurements.htm l
Hispar also makes a (slightly uglier) version for pretty cheap, but I hesitate from all the prior feedback and weird calf shape from that company: http://www.ridersmall.com/main/boots/Tall/ladies/Crown_Ladies_Field_boots.html
Jeanie, my trainer doesn't post here, but I sure am thankful for the tip about them being Dehners!! I think we should start a new fashion trend.

The 3-buckle boot is my favorite look. I wish it they were more readily available. I wanted to add that Der-Dau makes them as well, but I believe only for custom. In fact, Vogel probably makes them, too. But you have to pay probably close to a grand. You never know when you might find a pair somewhere. Look on ebay from time to time. I almost bought a pair made by Abercrombie (from the days when they were a really cool company that made outdoor gear and high quality sports clothes.) They were incredible. Good luck finding some!

I event in mine...I suppose I should find something more formal for dressage but can't quite let the three-buckles go...I was also once reprimanded for fox hunting in them after labor day when dress boots apparently become derigour (sp?). Hmph.

When I used to ride at Culver Military Academy as a teenager, it was all the rage to use black combat boots as the foot portion, and add the 3-buckle tops. That way when the feet wore out, you just needed another pair of combat boots. Can't be all that complicated -- or cost $1000 -- if you make them that way!

They're very cool looking...but (as I paid a little less than the "suggested retail" posted on the website) getting pretty close to the price of custom Dehners....

If you go to an army/ navy store, you may be able to find a good pair of all leather combat boots, but they are mostly made with a mix of goretex and leather these days. The movement of uniforms to desert colors, which includes tan/sand or teal boots, also means that the black boots will not be out of production soon, if they aren't already.
Something else I also noticed is that combat boots are more likely to get caught in stirrups. You need irons that are a little wider than the ones you usually wear, otherwise you risk your boot getting caught if you and your horse part ways.

The Horse Country ones are Harold Boots if I'm not mistaken. You can order them custom made direct from Harold (and I suspect it might work out a bit cheaper).

How cool :D
Back when I was in Michigan, I used to referee fencing at Culver - out in the middle of a cornfield, as I remember (the academy, not just the fencing - that was inside).
I had no idea they also had riding.
