Cross Posted from Fox Hunting but thought perhaps the hunters would be interested for schooling/something different :)

Seems to be quite the bargain on Der Daus
Manhattan Saddlery has Der Dau off the rack brown field boots on sale for $275.

See them here- https://www.manhattansaddlery.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_51_149&products_id=716&sid=cjoa70obj97gvjtgjriik72ij6

Hmmm....20% off should be $360. They have these marked to almost 40% off, which is quite a nice deal!

I would order the black sooner rather than later. Either the website copy is incorrect, or the price is...

What do most of you think of Der Dau boots? I have never had a pair before. My old tall boots were Ariats, and fit very nicely, but I am going to need a new pair of boots in the near future. I have heard of Der Dau's before but don't know a lot about them because we don't have a retailer in this area.

Der Dau makes a very nice boot. They are one of the few custom makers that offers an off-the-shelf boot. This is a great deal!

I can't get the size chart to pop up... is there another one around that I can see sizes?

Me neither. Saw these a couple weeks ago, couldn't then either, e-mailed Manhattan Saddlery....have not heard a thing back so I gave up.

I have black custom Der Dau and like them....was hoping the browns might be close enough size wise....nice boot.

What if you wear a size 6? Think it would be the same as the 7-71/2??

Can one of you gurus explain the size chart? So numbers at left are American shoe sizes?

What is T-- the first measurement?

C, slightly bigger is calf?

H is height?

Thanks for helping Manhattan Saddlery do their cotton pickin' job. Once I know what they mean, I can take it from there.

Oh, but do the feet on these bad boys run narrow like a Grand Prix paddock boot or realistically wide enough like your average Ariat?

Again, TIA

T is top. Measure from the back of your knee around to the front. Make sure you get the tape all the way up there. When I measure, the person is sitting in a chair, not standing up. I would assume those are done the same way.

I bought a pair there about two years......same price......I LOVE them. They're thinner than most "hunting boots" but I use them for cubbing and ratcatcher........and have been very comfortable and had lots of compliments! Glad to know about the black ones being on sale too. I love my Ariat Crowne's but they're SO soft, I'm afraid they won't last long!

Beware before buying Der-Dau boots. You cannot return them and they don't stand behind their product. I bought a pair while at the world cup. They measured me and then when I got the boots, the measurements were all wrong. The calves were enormous. I returned the boots at my expense for correction. When I called to find out the status of the correction, they told me they were too busy with other repairs and that someone would contact me when they got to mine. Instead weeks later the boots were mailed back to me without correction. I then sent them back with a request for a refund as I am not sure what your time limit waiting for boots are, but several months is not cool. Two months after sending them back, the Customer Service Director called me and said she was informing me of their no refunds policy. Here I am 6 months later, out $1500 and still no boots! Der-Dau sucks.

Call me at (347) 845-3638. If they do not fit then Der Dau will make it right and there are no associated costs.

The standard process is to be remeasured by a Der Dau rep or dealer. Then you mail back the boots to the NY office. Repairs usually take 2 to 3 weeks once they recieve them. The only charge you may get is to mail them back as they are sent via UPS and insured.

There is a no refund/no exchanges policy. That doesn't mean that if your boots come and aren't just what you want that you get a bill for adjustments. The policy is in place so that people don't order boots, receive them and decide they don't want them anymore. Custom products are hard as you can't just resell them as they aren't a standard size.

When did you receive them the first time around? The World Cup was only late April and orders from that should have been sent out in late May/early June. I am so sorry about this. Like I said, please call me!

I love my dress Der Dau's but my custom Vogel's are my favorites. I think the Der Dau's are much classier then Ariat.

In Dec of 2007, I purchased a pair of the Der Dau paddocks boots on sale from Manhatten Saddlery. Unfortunately, the paddock boots were huge and not returnable.

This year, I knew Der Dau would be at the Devon Horse Show so I brought the paddocks with me. The plan was to beg Der Dau to exchange the boots for a smaller size. Well, instead, for $75.00, they turned my off the shelf paddocks into custom paddocks and the boots were shipped to me in 2 weeks - not a bad deal. And, it was well worth it for me - after breaking a leg, my feet are now a 1/2 size different.

I'm very happy with my Der Dau paddocks.

*sigh* I wish that somewhere out there was a good quality company (like Der Dau, Vogel, or Dehner) that made off the rack boots in XXW that weren't 19 inches tall for those of us who are average height with big calves. I guess I could try to get them cut down, but it would be so nice to just buy something off the rack, just once, that actually fits well. :(

I bought a pair of these boots off the manhattan saddlery website. When I received them they don't day Der Dau on the inside! They say Cooperfields! Total Scam!

:eek::eek::eek:

That isn't cool. Did you return them? Did you call MS and give them $hit?

I have been close to ordering those for a while....thanks for the heads-up.

I totally agree! That's what stopped me from pursuing these boots. Luckily I'm getting zippers put in my ol off the rack Devon Aires that fit me four years ago when I bought them but don't any longer. I've had friends tell me that the Mountain Horse boots are good for us bigger calved girls! Or any really athletic person.

You can always get a boot cut down....not add height though. I would rather have your problem coming from someone with very tall, skinny calves. Also....athleticism and calf size are not directly related....calf size tends to be heriditary and be no indication of athletic ability.
