I need any thoughts on keeping weight on a horse while shipping him. He is a great shipper. Never nervous etc... but even on short trips he looses lots of weight. We usually ship at night during the summer and he keeps hay infront of him and has water at stops. Just wondering if anyone knew of something I could boost him with before getting on the trailer. I was thinking electrolites and a digestion supplement possibly. Just don't want to change too many things and upset his tummy before putting him on a trailer. Any suggestions would be great.

Ulcergard before during and a bit after . . . It's $30 a tube online and doesn't need an RX. It's the same as Gastrogard, which does need an RX. Personally, I"d probably do one tube for two days before, one tube per day during the trip. But if money is an issue, you could probably do 1/2 or 1/4 a tube per day instead.

If you are shipping I syringe before and if it is a long trip I do it a stop .
I use a big syringe and put the mix in a plastic bottle. I ship to everything I do.
I take weekly lesson 1 1/2 trip .
I do it before and when I arrive.
They will go ga ga once you start doing it --- They love the taste.
If you want more info look up Stomach Soother.
I buy my pappaya myself from a health food store -- cheaper and I like mix the aloe juice.
I also have plenty of hay in front of him when hauling.
