Who is the BEST lameness vet/vet clinic in California? I have a horse with a funky lameness and want to figure out what is wrong so we can resolve the issue. Please tell me who you would choose.

I go to UC Davis, but honestly if you want "THE BEST", then you want to go to Alamo Pintado.

I had really, really good luck with Slyvia Greenman of Greenman Equine. I highly recommend her. She is based out of Monrovia/Santa Anita

Jerry Black. He's currently treating my horse and I couldn't be happier with the attention and care he's provided.

If you're in Southern California, Mark Martinelli
In Nothern CA, Jack Snyder

I go along with the UC Davis or Alamo Pintado route. Used Pioneer once in the past and was not impressed with them.

Dr. Martinelli is the one of the top 3 equine orthopedic surgeons in the country. If you can get to San Diego, that is the only place to go.
Dr. Greenman is excellent too. If she can't figure it out, she'll recommend Dr. Martinelli.
Dr. Charlie Bolls is also a fantastic diagonistion (if that is a word. He is great at figuring out the origin of the lameness).
Good luck. Random lameness SUCKS!

California is a big state. North or south?
Michael Hogue is very good with lameness. He's around the Temecula area.

I like Diane Isbell, especially if you suspect it's soft tissue or foot related. She's in the Bay Area and has a very high quality ultrasound machine and skills, and is usually less expensive than going to Pioneer or UC Davis. She also works closely with a few farriers and a barefoot trimmer who do excellent work. She has diagnosed soft tissue injuries that some of the bigger clinics have completely missed on my horses, and helped me rehab them to soundness. She also may be the only vet in the area who has done Acell injections, which were the only thing that returned my upper level event horse with a chronic ligament injury to soundness.

Dr Sylvia Greenman. Especially for soft tissue leg injuries. She worked at Santa Anita for many years, and was in charge of or worked in the Nuclear scintigraphy area there. I am lucky enough now that she works in my area. i've used her for xray and diagnostic purposes and was very happy with her work. Working at Santa Anita, she has seen her share of leg injuries.

Jack Snyder is pretty darned good, but it's hard to call up and get an appointment with him. It can be done, but not as easily as with a private facility.
