Weed control

I was reading the latest hobby farm magazine and saw an ad for flame weeding:

I had never heard of controlling weeds this way before! Does anyone here use this for weed control? Would love to hear feedback!

it says it works well in rock gardens or between planted rows in a garden, i don't see how it could possible work for a pasture?

My husband gets great joy by going out and blasting stuff, but the weeds come back with a vengence....You can not selectively destroy the weeds, so the grass goes too, guess what comes back first!

I think you'd have to be really careful using fire out in a pasture. If I tried I'd burn down half the county :D (and get in really big trouble.)

Sure depends on where you live thats for sure. We used pasture burning on a yearly basis in Canada but........................heheh I tried that here and it dont work so well. Its either way too wet or too darn hot. Must admit though, it sure kept our fields green and clean up north.

It was very common practice in KS as well. One of my professors unfortunately burned down the neighbors pump house....:eek:

After the burn it would look like a moonscape, but the grasses sure came in nicely after that....

The device above can be used to spot burn, so not burn the whole pasture (as long as you aren't so dry that one spark sets everything off...)

I'd be afraid to burn the whole pasture where I am now....too many other burnable things...like the national forest next door...........
