Anyone have a good source for these? I usually buy them from Farm Vet but I need nine and that's going to be well over $200. Does anyone know of a cheaper source or is that about as good as it gets?

Don't forget to factor in the global impact of shipping a chunk of SALT halfway around the planet. :(. Anything wrong with home grown salt?

You'd have to ask my horses about that. They won't touch anything but these himalayan licks.

Well I have the normal 5 lb white salt block and the Himalayan kind. Hands down, the Himalayan wins..It is always the one with slobber all over it!

I have to admit - I used to make fun of people who bought these "majikal" salt blocks for their horses
But....then I got talked into trying one for a mare that will NOT lick a salt block. Bingo! She loves the thing! So now I have to take back my mean things I said about them
Another horse was standing there just going to town on the thing, they act like it's so great tasting - I decided to give it a lick myself - have to say it's pretty tasty, haha!

My guys agree, this is the only salt my horse and donkey will touch, the Redmond salt has been sitting there for about 6 months with no use but the Himalayan licks need to be turned all the time to keep them wearing evenly.

I did the same thing when my chiro told me to get them for my horses...who wouldn't lick a salt or mineral block...when i first opened the package she left me I thought..."this smells too good to go in a barn"..I I tasted it too!:lol::lol::lol: and my horses act the same way!

To my horses, the Himalayan salt is crack.
PSA: I was warned by my vet to limit the intake, though, since she has been seeing very elevated levels of calcium in horses that had it free-choice. Granted, it's anecdotal but something to keep in mind.

If the horses are not licking a regular salt lick and are ripping through their Himalayan salt block, that not only means that the new block tastes good, it means the horse is no longer using its salt block to meet nutritional needs. It's using it like a glorified treat.
Not my idea of a good thing.

My guys shouldn't need anymore nutrition in their diets between the high quality hay, Ultium, Platinum, electrolytes and other supps. I like them to have these because it keeps them drinking in the extreme heat we're having. Every colic surgery I've ever had to have done to my horses could be traced back to them getting hot and not drinking. Even my older guy who was never much of a drinker will drink most of a bucket between breakfast and when we throw lunch hay with these. I do usually swing the rope so it hangs out of their stall b/t lunch and dinner (they get night turnout and aren't in their stalls) because they like them so much they'll go through them in no time.
