I have a 15.2 H bay OTTB that needs to find "his person". I purchased him from Suffolk Downs in November 2008. I simply don't have the time, skill, or facility to retrain him.

I have done tons of groundwork with him since I brought him home. He crossties, is great for the vet, farrier, and dentist. He has been longed to death, in side reins and over ground poles, long-lined, and hand walked out on the trails. Not a hot horse at all, but very sensitive and reactive. The only thing I have seen him spook at is cows. Fine with cars, bikes, dogs, chickens, machinery, other horses running loose around the farm-nothing phases him.

I started him back under saddle in March. Had a fellow boarder put the first few rides on him because he had a tendency to bronc a little. Thought he may be cold backed so we always longed before riding. She took him on a couple of trail rides, first time out was awful but second time out he was great. After a couple days of her riding him, he stopped bucking and I rode him 5-6 days a week until the end of May. That was the last time anyone has been on him.

Before I stopped riding him he was doing well walk/trot in the ring, going on the bit a little and starting to learn some basic lateral work. He can have a tendency to get nappy when he thinks he's done and I don't have the courage to get into a fight with him since I don't think I can sit his bucks.

He is prone to ulcers and just finished 30 days of gastrogard, and is now on Smartgut from Smartpak. His overall attitude has become much more pleasant since the ulcer treatment. I'm hoping now that his belly doesn't hurt he may be better under saddle.

He most likely had a poorly done tie back surgery at the track. Food and water come out his nose when he eats and drinks so I feed him off the ground- no hanging feed buckets or hay racks.

Has osselets on right front. I had a basic PPE done in November and he flexed sound.

I really think he could make a great horse for someone. A person who has experience with OTTBs and likes a little bit of a challenging ride would be perfect.

Lurch is still looking for a home. He has had a complete personality change after finishing the ulcer treatment. I have kept him in very light easy work all summer so he is really ready for someone to start some serious training with him. He loves to jump and would make a great hunter or eventer.
I have grown very fond of him and hate to give him up, I just don't have the time to ride 2 horses this winter at a farm that has no indoor or outdoor riding ring. References will be required and checked before he goes anywhere, and I will take him back if it doesn't work out.
This is a young, sound, sweet horse that will make an adult or competent teen rider very happy! He just needs a little work.
