Hubby has finally agreed to get my arena done at home (yippee!:)) and I want to price the crumb rubber footing. Anyone know anywhere (fairly) local I can contact? I don't want to pay for shipping from somewhere far away unless I have to!

I'll come move in with you if you get it! FWIW, I think the best way to do it is to mix it with sand. They have it at Rockville Equestrian center in Oilville. It was there when they got there, but they may have the contact info. Also Grayson Farm has it in their indoor arena. I am not sure how well it holds up in an outdoor arena, but I do know that people use it. It's divine.
Just be careful which kind you get as I think in some places the recycled tires are considered a biohazard or some such thing and you can be made to remove it if you sell the house.

MM--:lol::lol: No, didn't win the lotto, unfortunately. I'm guessing it'll probably wind up being out of our price range but hubby wanted me to price it. I've warned him it will NOT be cheap. If it's not doable, I'll just do sand/gravel dust. I'll be happy with just about anything, as long as I have an arena! :D

We too have rubber footing in our indoor arena. Makes life a lot easier on our old beginner schoolies! Outside, we have 2 rings with a rubber/sand mix and 2 with just sand. I definitely prefer the rubber/sand rings, much less dust!

Too bad you aren't in eastern PA. I accepted crumb rubber that came from a playground, and have far too much for my own arena. It is a mixture of black and light gray crumbs in various sizes, and we screen it to get the desired size for our own arenas. If anyone is interested they can PM me.

baytracks-- how'd you get the playground hookup? (I wonder how much it'd be to truck it from PA to VA???:D)

Check out FICS of Maryland (www.stableandarena.com (http://www.stableandarena.com)). Sandy Hart-Long is really nice and easy to work with, although you might have an issue with getting your phone call returned. Just keep calling, and they'll get back to you. They'll push (hard) the Eurofelt but, personally, I'd stick with the rubber.
FICS supplied the rubber for my rings. I think it's trucked in from North or South Carolina, and there's a one-time trucking fee. You can get it in 1,500 pound bags, or have it delivered on a walking-floor truck (I got the bags). I think I paid somewhere between .30 and .40 per pound about 3 years ago. My outdoor (150 x 225) has 44,000 pounds in it, and my indoor (84 x 154) has about 12,000 pounds in it. It's WELL worth every penny. Everyone who has ridden here has commented on how nice my footing is.

If you go that route KPF, let me know..... I might could go in on a bit of it.
Come check out my ring when you have a chance. It's got manufactured sand in it. I don't do stone dust, it packs too hard. I have about 3000 worth of footing in my ring. The nice washed river sand or masonry sand run a lot more...but I have this connection with a pile of sand.... that has been offered to me...... just don't know how to get it home. Perhaps we can come up with a plan on that.

Yes, MM-- I like the manuf. sand also-- that's what I had put in to level my barn site. It is much nicer than gravel dust.
Will call you when I get closer to being ready for footing to find out more about your sand pile... hubby has a dump truck and has a couple friends with dump trucks also. So if we could figure out the loading part that may be doable.
I'm not sure if I'd want to do a sand/rubber mix or what but hopefully will know more very soon. I have a new horse coming in the next few weeks and I WANT MY ARENA!!!!:lol::lol:
