So I know people are always saying pilates is going to help your riding. However I was watching a show called "Shimmy" on FitTV and thought "holy cow, those chicks can move those hips!" (its a belly dancing workout). My second thought was "that would be great for riding!". So does anyone do belly dancing and find that it does help?

A few years ago I took up belly dancing and it really helped my riding. My riding instructor was really impressed with the progress I made riding while belly dancing once a week. Belly dancing helped loosen up my back and strengthen my core...and it was really fun! Try it, you might like it!

Yes, it helps. I've been bellydancing on & off for about 6 years.
Great workout! Keeps the back loose, strengthens the core & arms.
What style are you doing?

haven't tried it yet, and have no idea where I would even start. What would you recommend?

I started doing the Shimmy videos about a year ago and it has helped tone me up, but hasn't done a whole lot for stamina. I want the body that those dancers have :D.

yea the Shimmy ones seem like they require a little too much coordination for me! I wasn't thinking stamina, more engaging your core and loosening your hips. I know sometimes I get a little tight in the saddle and thought that the belly dancing would be a good program to add to my pretty lame workouts :)
