Today was one of those days when everything just goes very well. Not perfect (except for the weather, which was perfect), but well.
The braiding this morning was so-so, but with the proper cursing and swearing I got it done and made it to the horse show on time. It was a relief to travel with the long overdue new trailer tires, and I had some great Joe Cocker songs playing on the stereo that put me and my horse in a happy mood.
After checking in, I met Lynn Klisavage, the beneficiary of the show proceeds (to help her with medical bills that resulted from a catastrophic illness). She hugged me and everyone else she saw. She was grateful for the support and grateful to be alive, and she radiated her joy to everyone she touched.
My horse wasn't quite relaxed in the warm-up, but he was calm. This was nice, because the schooling show last weekend was a freakin' rodeo, and we discovered a poltergeist while schooling in the arena last night, and we did NOT like the poltergeist! It might have been the Thia-Cal and magnesium I added to his feed this morning, but whatever it was, I accepted it as a gift from Zenophon himself and went on like last night never happened.
Did I mention the weather was purrrfect.:)
My tests went well, which was just perfect. My coach was there to help and she gave me some great last-minute tips that got us an 8 in our canter lengthening > working canter sequence. We also got some 8s in other movements, and we placed second in both classes, tying the winning score in one. Very cool (compared to the rodeo).
On the way home, still singing along with Joe Cocker, I decided to slow down just a tad. Something one of the Car Talk guys said on their show yesterday stuck with me and made me think to go slower. Before I knew it, I was 60 seconds shy of missing this boat wreck on Highway 83 (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i213/hfournier/boat-wreck-hwy-83.jpg). Thank you, God. Thank you, Car Talk brothers.
Pulling up my driveway, I managed to close the windows just in time to narrowly miss a giant, angry swarm of bees. Bees are okay, but not in my vehicle.
After unloading Mr. Handsome, I checked on my filly who had come up lame on her right front last night. She was re-shod on Friday, and I was terrified that her laminitis had relapsed. She trotted out of her stall sound.
And finally, though the day's not over yet, there was a Heineken the size of my head awaiting me in the fridge.
Ahhhhh....that just goes down so well.:D
