Anyone been on a day trail ride at this place? (I'm sure there are other Icelandic places in VT, but I'm talking about the Vermont Icelandic Horses place, that formerly did treks through CCI.) I'm going up to VT next week and thought it might be fun to swing by there and do their day trail ride... but it's always hit-or-miss with public trail ride places whether you're going to get stuck with a bunch of kids and non-riders and have to slow down accordingly. I really want to tolt. (:

I might just drive a few more hours and stay at my friend's Icelandic farm in NY, but this one looked nice and it's close to where I'll be...

Are you talking about the one in Warren VT? If so they are very nice people and I think you would have a great time.:)

Yep, that's the one--good to know, thanks! Have you done it before?

I went in winter several years ago - had a fab trail ride - 2 hours in the snow. Snow was falling and it was beautiful.

I thought they did a professional job. We (husband and I) started out with another couple. Ten minutes into the ride it became apparent that the other woman was terrified being on the horse and not up to the trail ride. We turned back, dropped off the not-up-to-it couple and went back out.

The ponies were delightful - peppy but obedient.

The scenery was lovely.

The guide was strict about us following her instructions (no racing up hills, etc.) which I take as a sign of a well-run place that puts the horses first.

I'd recommend it!

I friend of mine does the couple day Icelandic trek in VT. and loves it. Let me ask her if it is the same one you are referring to.

Enjoy, those little Icies are so much fun, like hairy Paso's.
