your link gives a "session timed out" error; would love to know how the people at Hilton Honors came up with this idea, though-- can you use more points to earn credits for vet/farrier, etc (kidding, but if they're offering the horse....)?
can just picture the reward redemption department and some invoice that says "redeem ________ points for (1) horse, type American Quarter" LOL.

I get a timed out message with the later link also.
Nothing AQHA does really surprises me.

Of course, with the roughly 10 points per dollar spent ratio it would only have to spend $250,000 to get your quarter horse. Give or take a few thousand dollars. I'm pretty sure that anyone spending $250,000 on things like hotels, rental cars, and resturants doesn't need Hotel Points to buy themselves a horse.

interesting. Also interesting that only geldings are going. It sounds like an attempt to tap a new market to find homes for horses. Only allowing geldings guarantees no breeding. Someone who has enough money to get that many points may already have some horses and may pick up another just because it is 'free' and the have everything else they want on the list.
It is still kind of weird and the horse could very definitely end up in the wrong hands. Just because they have money, does not mean they know enough about horses to do the right thing with their new 'toy'.
Gotta love the description also....

Notice that there is no guarantees of the quality of the horse... I mean, I can get an AQHA gelding for about $900 any day of the week if I'm not picky ;)

You could get one for free if you weren't picky.
And what the heck kind of pageant would you be entering your horse in?

Maybe TLC could do a show like Toddlers and Tiaras for Quarter horses. I'd tune into that!:D

THis isn't really true. My hubby has a Hilton Card from his work. He travels quite a bit, they only use hotels that honor the card and he gets all of the rewards, not the company.

There is a certain parallel between kiddie pageants - little girls in fancy dresses and way way way too much makeup - and beefcake QH halter yearlings and 2 year olds.......

This scares me for many many many reasons. I hope they do follow up visits and send the horses with care instructions. I can see too many of the horses getting dumped when the "new" wears off and the owners get tired of paying board on them. Hopefully they don't let rank beginners select that they want babies....
It would be nice if instead of the option to get a horse they offered the option to save a horse. Get so many points and a rescue will go purchase a horse at auction thats in bad shape and will rehab it. Yeah you wouldn't get a shiney new horse to ruin, but it would save a life.

Now, I LOVE that option, PicturePerfect! :D Sure wish they'd go that route!!! Think you could convince them to change their *reward* option?:cool:

I don't know, it doesn't really bother me. If someone really wants a free horse, they can get one pretty easy. At least this way there is some inspection process (it says the offer is contingent upon inspection of the property/facility by the breeder). I'd rather see someone at least making sure the new owners have the right start rather than someone picking up a $50 QH at an auction and keeping him in a junkyard. Since they only have geldings it won't be another BYB in the making, either (or at least not directly). And I do think in general someone who is traveling enough to have one of these cards and earn that many points will probably make a decent amount of money. I can't think of too many low-wage jobs that you travel that much for.
I do like PicturePerfectPonies suggestion, though. In fact I'd like to see a lot of charity options for these rewards. Who needs more junk sitting around, after all?

availability from AHQA-certified breeder at time of order.
I didn't realize you could just order a horse, either.
I'll have to dig out my wish list and place my order - 16.2+ hh, makes my butt look small, 12' stride, jumps 3'6" effortlessly, 10+ jump, 10+ mover, auto changes, black with 4 white socks.

Other than the fact the horse(s) being offered are registered AQHA, what does AQHA have to do with it? I think if AQHA was involved in this deal the blurb would have been a bit better written. ;) I don't think I've ever seen them refer to pagents in any of their literature!

It's probably just a "corporate partners" thing that looks good on paper but never actually happens.
How many people do you REALLY think use all those supposed "benefits" that we get with USEF and our breed association memberships.
Some people are making a lot of fuss, apparently just for the fun of making a fuss. It's not like Hilton is giving away colts on every street corner.

And before those of you who want to slander AQHA, have you actually taken the time to sit down and write them an email and ask for their explanation or comments on this? Or is it more fun to assume things??

I think it's hysterical. I think I will order a 15h, QH, 6 years old that is trained to 4th level dressage - that would be well worth my 2.5M points!

AQHA and Hilton are not corporate partners. I would guess that this is a private breeder with ties to Hilton. The add is so vague and so broad that it would cover a wide range of quality. I smell a $250,000 write off -
"See Mr. IRS man, Hilton says my horse is worth $250,000- I am running a business; just look at the profit on one horse!"
OP - how did you find this on the Hilton site?
