If the delivery and stacking is included in the price of the hay, do you guys still tip? I'm a big tipper generally, but I'm buying extra hay to have the delivery and stacking included, so I'm inclined not to tip this time. Of course, I'm buying enough to get the price break, too.
Any opinions?

I don't. I'm the first person to tip graciously (at least the standard 20% and usually more for good service/help) since I put myself through college waiting tables. My standard is that if someone owns their own company and is making all of the profits I do not. I've never had a "hay guy" who was delivering someone elses hay though. I work in the wedding industry and that's pretty much the standard there as well... if it's your company and you're keeping all of the profits- other than the normal maintenance, costs, expenses, etc.- then you better really impress me to think you're entitled to a tip.

our men are tipped for any extra effort normally..we certainly don't suggest or demand that of course...
but I guess that they never figured Calvin ever went to any effort for them:no: one guy did say "tell your Daddy I like his hay":lol::lol::lol:...but he does not deliver anymore either....

When I had hay delivered, I did tip. Not a percentage of the bill, but enough that they could get lunch.

I don't tip. I am paying for the hay and a delivery fee. They have great hay and great service. I just feel I am already paying enough for the hay.....

I'm like MM - great people, great service. I just hand them $10.00 and say buy yourself a lunch or a beer with an apologetic smile. It's little enough compared to the total bill for the hay and I don't feel guilty. I also offer a cold drink.

Thanks. There were no "middle men" -- the guy I bought the hay from delivered it with his son and one other man. His wife was there, too, but she did not do any of the heavy work (filled out reciept). We did offer them drinks and food (including beer), and they just wanted water, so I brought out a pitcher and cups.
I might have tipped "delivery guys," but since it was the owner and the price included delivery and stacking, I did not add extra (except about $8 to round up on a $892 bill). I did pay cash, though, which I'm sure they appreciated;)
Thanks for the replies.

If the people doing the stacking are not the owners of the company, then tip them.
The general rule is if you set your price, you get your price and no more. If you work for the guy setting the price, you get a tip.
