Grand Campaigners at the KY Horse Park

I was digging through some old pictures, and I found one I took back in the mid-80's, on a visit to the KYHP- of the great Forego...

This guy was so hardknocking- and HUGE- and he held up for a good while. As a foal of Secretariats year- 1970- he was fourth in Big Red's Derby.

Anyone else have shots they have taken over the years, of these amazing beasts?

I have pictures somewhere from my early nineties visit to the park- John Henry, Forego & Bold Forbes. At the time I didn't really understand what I was seeing- I was a pretty big race fan for a 12 year old, but my knowledge of former champs didn't go much beyond Affirmed, Secretariat, Genuine Risk, etc. If I knew then what I know now... :no: I never got back to the park to see any of them after I knew & what they were. I'll see if I can dig those pics up.

I go down and visit them a lot...Cigar is very sweet; he will come to the stall gate and let me scratch his forehead. John Henry is sorely missed. There are a lot of nice horses there now, but not the likes of Forego, Bold Forbes, and John Henry. Too bad Alysheba didn't get to spend more time there. :(

Who knows, maybe someday Mine That Bird will end up there! :)

I have a framed collector's plate of Cigar. I had it framed in cherry with a linen background. The frame cost more than the plate, lol. I got it for my Dad and when he passed away I got it back.
