When fitting a bridoon and curb bit to your horse, how do you go about it? Do you purchase a bridoon in the same width as the snaffle bit used on the snaffle bridle? Do you size down a bit for the curb? My horses snaffle is a 5 3/4" width. I have read that the bridoon should be a bit wider than the curb...

Yup, you've pretty much got it.

My mare went in a 5.75" snaffle. It was a hair big, but it didn't come in a 5.5", so we worked with what we could get. The same bit in a bradoon did come in a 5.5" so I got that for the double and a 5.25" curb. Fit was great, but the curb wasn't perfect for her. So then I switched to a curb that comes in either a 5" or a 5.5". The 5" was too snug, so I had to go with the 5.5" even though it a hair big. And it's working great.

So yes, typically snaffle .25" or so bigger than the curb, but I think there's some wiggle room in that rule.
