Ok...If you had to choose 1 song to ride your cross country round to, what would it be?
This should be interesting.....

Hmm...this takes some real considering. I don't know if I have a particular song (although "bombs over baghdad" by Outcast comes to mind)
It would have to be something like Pantera or Metallica, or something really heavy but rythmic like jungle or house music.

"This Is How a Heart Breaks" by Rob Thomas
It's got a great tempo and great drums that feel almost a bit primal. LOVE it! I wish they could blast it on magic speakers that followed me on my XC ride.

Easy. The titles are self explanatory.
Queen: Keep Yourself Alive
AC/DC: Rock 'n' Roll Damnation ("Take the chance while you still gotta choice.") or Down Payment Blues
OC Supertones: Superfly
AND....
Eddy Current Suppression Ring: Which Way to Go.
The songs that got me through the last competition was "Worry About it Later" by The Futureheads, "Alive and Amplified" by The Mooney Suzuki and "When worlds Collide" by Powerman 5000.
Other greats I have on the GALLOP TUNES playlist include:
Lonely Tree - Yothu Yindi (awesome tune for sunny days!)
Roll On and Prisoner of Society - The Living End
Good Days Bad Days - Kaiser Chiefs
E-Pro - Beck
Your Time has Come - Audioslave
Rudie Can't Fail and Police on My Back - The Clash
Are You Magnetic - Faker ("Sometimes when we fall we just land in the right place.")
As for having "magic speakers" I have to relay something that happened in 1984. I was at the Colorado State Fair riding in the AO Jumpers. The arenas were just outside the horse race track there and were separated by a large stone wall but that was it. Well the entertainment one night on the track infield was Ted Nugent. There I was doing the jumpers to a packed LIVE Ted Nugent concert. Talk about having "magic speakers." It literally ROCKED!

Ozzy's "Crazy Train"
Cheval Gris
Jun. 18, 2009, 04:41 PM
Definately gotta be Thunderstruck by AC/DC. That song gets me so pumped up.I run to it a lot and man if I could carry an IPOD around XC at a show, that would be my top choice!! I tried really hard to name my current horse around that song somehow. I could list a bunch by AC/DC that are great to gallop to....
Or another one, Crazy Train by Ozzy.

For the 2 years I was trying to get my OTTB to his first event, I had this vision of a video of all his rearing and stomping and general stupidness - set to Kayne West's Stronger - with the end showing us finally getting around a course (okay, so if/when we get around a Prelim or higher course, the images will work better than a BN or N course, but oh well) - but then the Animal Planet show, Jockey's, took my song! I still love it though - and it's a total inspiration for me to hear as I'm going through my course in my head before riding.

oh, I would definitely listen to Queen - Killer Queen especially. Also maybe "99 Red Balloons" by Goldfinger.
I'll definitely be adding to my playlist from what people post here - I'm guessing there'll be lots of variety!

I agree totally! That is one of my all-time favorites. I am not an eventer, but I always thought it would be really fun to see somebody do a musical freestyle to it!
Or how about "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar.

Don't know about xc, but I got "Why Don't You and I" by Santana and Chad Kroger (Nickelback lead singer) stuck in my head before stadium once and I had the best round of my life. Turns out it's a perfect cadence for a prelim stadium course. Too slow for xc though.

Uh, generally its "row row row your boat" or the ABCs...those are usually all I can remember and the easiest things to think about to keep myself breathing...
Perhaps Anna Nalick's "Breathe" should be in my head instead...Its a better song... :)

Supermassive Black Hole - Muse.
I feel like the rhythm fits and I feel like there is something in the song that reminds of being both nervous and really excited at the same time.

Some really good choices (and some that made me chuckle, HiddenStars826). I would have to say mine would be the theme song to the movie, Robinhood Prince of Thieves. It has no vocals, but has a great crescendo-ing gallop rhythm. Love it!! Hearing it just makes me want to grab my horse and take off across a field.

LOL, I must be one of the few country/western girls, but the best galloping song I know is Chris LeDoux's "Hooked on an 8 Second Ride". I always hum it to myself when galloping across a big field or walking into the ring for a jumpoff. Kinda sums up for me why I do these crazy sports.

LOL! On the way to our last event we heard a song in the car that I laughed and said I wanted to play when I ran XC. It was Kenny Loggins "Highway to The Danger Zone" from Top Gun!! LOLOL That's my funny XC song and I would be singing along, over the top and overly dramatic as I booked around!

octavian_jazz,
Supermassive Black Hole is my real (not funny Kenny Loggins!) XC song! Makes me feel quite powerful for some reason and right before I left the start box last time I had it going in my head. Really pumped me up! Too funny we share a XC song!

You know, I had actually thought about the Ramones "I want to Be sedated".
Yes, I am old. One of the barn kids rides to Ram Jam's "Black Betty". It was pretty cool when the announcer put it on the PA at Otter.
I am trying to think of a song that would be appropriate for my mare....there has to be a Talking Heads song that will work.

"Are You Ready for This?" from the movie Space Jam. The other song is good, too. I guess it's just the theme, idk the name of it.
Seriously though, I have to have something pretty upbeat and fast.
Kanye West's Stronger, Fort Minor's Remember the Name, Eminem's Lose Yourself, Black Eyed Pea's Pump It, Smashmouth's Allstar, uhm...anything from SOAD's Toxicity, some Limp Bizkit songs...
My riding playlist is pretty darn different from what I listen to on a regular basis, with the exception of SOAD lol.

I'm not laughing at all! I keep the whole soundtrack in my truck (yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm old) for the drive to an event. Other good ones from that 'track are Through the Fire by Larry Greene and Cheap Trick's Mighty Wings.
And, although the beat isn't right for xc, we often get pumped before going into D (!) with Dire Straits' Walk of Life. (NOT from the Top Gun soundtrack ;-) That started when I was showing him in-hand as a youngster...
