I'm trying to get a small collection of used saddles together in my price range to have a saddle fitter look at when they come to MS next week.
I found a used Castelow Saddler's Bench dressage saddle, price is right... anyone familiar with this brand? Is there a type of horse they "generally" fit well (i.e. high-withers)?

I have a Castelow saddle -- had it made about 5 years ago. He makes all his saddles to order, as far as I know. So I doubt there would be a particular conformation his saddles usually fit. The workmanship on mine is top quality. Count yourself very lucky if you found a used for a good price.

I have one and I love it. Reminds me of a narrow Passier--does not have all the fancy blocking, which works for me. I got rid of the Prestige for the Castelow.
Bring it in.

One close contact that I had custom made and one dressage that was made to fit a horse similar to mine, which I purchased used. Richard re-flocked the dressage saddle to fit my horse perfectly. His work is top notch, he is at the KHP for the summer, so any adjustments are no problem, and he is a stand up guy. His bridles are also quite yummy, I have two of those as well. His new customs are going for around $4500 or more, so if you found a used one at a good price, snatch it up, they are wonderful.

Cool :)
I'll reel it in and take a peek at it. I'll try to get a serial number too and see if Richard can tell me anything about it that might be helpful. It is a Narrow-medium tree, which "should" be in my geldings wither range, with any luck, hopefully, maybe....
Also will find out if the tree is adjustable. Sounds like it might be since it was a custom.

Absolutely. He got my saddle to me on time as promised, even though Hurricane Rita had blown part of his home away.
OP, good idea on calling Richard re: the saddle. If you like it and it's close to fitting your horse, have him reflock it for you. He is a master.

castelow is top notch. and as was said, to my knowledge they're custom, or bench made.

I called the store that has the saddle and there is not a serial number nor mark anywhere except the nail heads say "saddlers bench".
So not much to talk to him about at this point. Think I will have it shipped to me to try at the saddle fitting clinic.
Thanks for the input!

Are made by him and by hand. I got to sit in Mark Leone's jumping saddle before he picked it up from Richard.
Didn't help me any, but it was kinda cool.

The saddle is on it's way! The tack store that has it says it could be a really good fit for high-withered, big shouldered type horse :)
Hope it works out (for me and gelding), because the price is really great.
