Yeats wrote himself into the history books and achieved a degree of immortality today.

FOUR ASCOT GOLD CUPS!!!!!

That was a truly amazing performance. Maybe the greatest stayer.... ever.

I love Yeats, and I love the Gold Cup. Wish we had something like it here.

I'm still speechless. what a truly amazing performance. The gutsiness in the stretch after Two and Half miles when Patkai came at him. That's what the thoroughbred is all about. All class, pure unadulturated class.

I posted the spoiler alert in case anyone had DVR'd the race.

Regardless it was a brilliant run with the utmost confidence and class. What a stayer! The 8-yr old son of Saddler's Wells just rocked. I'd say it was a victory by possibly 4-lengths which after that marathon distance its huge.

I'm sure even The Queen was beaming having seen something so historic.

Johnny M. and Aiden O'brien both just beaming also seem rather chatty with The Queen during the presentation.

Yeats paid $4.40 USD for the victory.
2nd - Patkai
3rd - Geordieland (FR) ... he was far back from Yates and Patkai

Does anyone know if Washington Irving is hurt or whether he was pulled up because he was just out of gas? I've been following him...hope he's okay.

Patkai is only 4, so he's got a lot of racing ahead one would hope. Son of Indian Ridge, which is the only big time, surviving Herod line around.

I don't see this mentioned yet - but Veracity was euthanized after breaking down in the stretch

Oh, that's a shame. My condolences to his connections, what a sad day for them.

I was watching TVG's coverage of the races and my gosh, Yeats is breathtaking. He just oozes royalty. Magnificent horse.

It is these kinds of horses that become national heroes over there even amongst non horse folks. Their longevity and hardness keeps them going. They can be laid up with an injury for a whole year and come back to do years more racing. Here it is game over for them. Think of the likes of Desert Orchid, Red Rum, and the Grand National runners often over ten years old.

I yearn for that kind of TB, their looks, bone, type, especially the jumpers.

Then there is Seabiscuit.
