This just sounds absolutely heavenly for my RID mare to attend...but it's so far...and at a terrible time of year for me, right on a busy holiday weekend and before two very important horse trials for my upper level horse so I am just destroyed that I won't be able to take her...she would LOFF it and it would be so good for her Royal Greenness...sigh....I will have to just live for hte reports and pictures that will be posted I hope! :)

THat is a shame. Sounds like your mare would have been a nice ambassador for the breed, especially with you riding ability. Hopefully, there will be all levels of Irish Draughts and Irish Draught Sport horses for the public to see in action. Seems that they are perfect for amateur riders as well as advanced levels, depending on the breeding. My gelding is just three so we will be doing the in hand conformation show with George Chapman . It's rare, in the states, to have the chance for a certified Irish Judge look at your horse. I'm a little "destroyed" that I won't be riding in the clinic.

My mare is due to foal in 2 weeks, or I would be there with my imported RID in
a heartbeat!
This should be some Show with Irish fellas: Aidan, Noel, Jack & George!
I'll be there on foot!
I'm looking forward to seeing & hearing Denny teach!

Chief (my 4 yo) is 1/4 RID (his dam-sire is Happy Ending RID), but he is registered with AWS, not any of the Irish books.
Would he be welcome? Your post says "anyone with ID blood", but the web site seems to imply that they must be registered IDSH.
It is a LONG way, but he should be at the point where he would really benefit from a clinic with Denny.

I'd be interested in the registry question also. I have an Imported ISH that is in the Irish books, but not NA books. I also have a 3yo ISH o/o an Imported ISH mare by Clover Hill, but not registered.
Does anyone know more about the registry issue? Website states they have to be but I know sometimes they will pass on that?

I've called the lady in charge to see about the registry part----
Reading back thru the website & entry form, I only see preference for the Clinic price,
Non-members have an extra $50.00, but since non-members are invited, that must
mean ID & IDSH that aren't yet in the North American registry are invited!
It is a promotional project for the ID & IDSH's!
So, please, sign up & come for what should be a terrific weekend!

The website says
Those riding or showing, however, must do so with an Irish Draught or Irish Draught Sport Horse. So it is a question of definition, since it doesn't say "Registered"

If I wasn't planning on the Training 3-day the previous weekend I would love to do this.
My mare is Performance Horse Registry blood typed and sired by Brandenburg's Windstar who has some kind of Irish registry - so I have the proof that she's got Irish Draught blood, but she's only 1/4.

If your horse has Irish Blood, your welcome to bring them. No membership or registration is required. One of the attendends will have the mare book and the stallion book to look up blood lines for those who are interested in that. Technically, you need 1/8 ID to be registered at a IDSH. No prejudice. Come , relax , enjoy and learn . Honestly, it is Denny's enthusiasm for these horses, that is making this possible. CRF

Janet, There are entries coming from VA. I know there is a four horse with one empty stall. It would be the Pres. of the IDHSNa. If you would like I could put you in touch. There are entries from Chicago and Washington . Lots of trailerpooling going on. CRF

Hilary,
You are close to VT. You could do just the clinic or just the show. No need to do all of it. If its to much for your horse, come along with a folding chair and sit with me. I'll be soaking up "Irish Denny Camp" and the guest speakers, for sure. CRF

Hilary, will this be the Classic format?
Where will it be?
Have you done the Classic format before?
Denny will be so supportive of you, if it's the Classic 3-Day!!!!!!!!!!!
As will we all!
And please come to audit Denny's Clinic----I will be doing ground support, & soaking
it all in, too!

Yes, GMHA is offering the Classic format at Training level (the half-star!) and I really really want the mare to go as I think it will help complete the installation of the "FORWARD" button! She's careful and cautious to the extent that we usually end up with a stop or 2 or 3 on XC because she needs to examine the fence and gets behind the leg. When she finally gets that big Irish arse in gear she's great.
So, yeah, I figured if I had THAT as an excuse for not bringing her, he'd have to be OK with it. But coming up for a day would be fun too!

I hope all the RID and ISH people take note of the wonderful things Denny is doing for our breed!!! I used to live close to Denny when we were in Southern Pines...now that we are breed TB/ISH horses we live half way across the country!! Obviously I can't come to play, but I'll be thinking of all the good times you're having and sending special thanks to Denny for drawing the well deserved attention to the Irish horses!!

You are not Kidding. Just yesterday he presented more fantastic Idea's for our Irish Horse Fair. We will be having live music , food, book signings. Showing them off to those that aren't familiar with them is most important. This traditional Irish Horse Fair theme is brilliant. Denny is lining up rider to Demo the horses over the CC and show jumping. No need to say more. It won't be wimpy. LOL So, if you have ID's or IDSH'S bring them. If you don't, we will show you why you should!!! Game on!! So they say. CRF

I'll be there with my big boy! He can't wait to hang out & talk Guinness with his fellow Irish!
We would be doing the T3DE too, but he's been lame & there went our conditioning process. So, I'll be volunteering & cheering you on instead.

Hilary, I can totally relate! I was hoping to install that 'forward button' too! My horse is way too cerebral when it comes to XC.... Maybe next year.
Hope you can make it up to Denny's!

It just makes so much sense to do the Steeplechase portion & then the Roads & Tracks
round out the *exercise*-----to get ready for the XC----
Good for you, Hilary, & I hope you have a terrific time!
We'll be looking for details at Denny's!
I'm planning that this will be an annual event at Denny's (or somewhere!)
& my RID mare from Ireland will be participating along with her babies!!!!!!!!
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I have heard from some people in the North West and South West that would like to find other to travel with to Vermont, with and without horses. Any one else?

Can you just go and audit? I don't know if I could bring my horse - he's an RISH. As far as the registering thing goes - if your horses are not registered and you wish them to be - you can get them DNA tested - it takes several weeks and some good tail hair plucking. My horse was not registered when I shipped him over from Ireland - he didn't even have a passport but I knew who the sire was (sadly not the dam) - plucked some tail hairs; sent it in and once they confirmed his bloodlines - he was registered. I think it's around $75 or so for the "kit"
anyway I would love to come watch and learn sans horse -

The way the plan is shaping up, there will be a riding clinic Sat and Sunday morning.
Then, starting about mid-day Sunday, a sort of Irish horse fair, open to the public, of course, with demonstrations, like show jumping, cross country jumping, etc., Irish music,
whatever anyone can dream up. Then a big party Sunday night.
Then a horse show all day Monday, Memorial Day, with judges brought over from Ireland.
Cori Oehley is "stage-managing" all of this, and I`ll bet she`d welcome input and/or help.

Hi there, To answer Gottagrey, no, you don't need registration to enter. Please do bring your horse. You will both have a GREAT time.
I would love to hear from anyone who is coming and might be able to lend a hand.
My info is on our website www.Irishdraught.com Cartroadfarm@charter.net or 508-529-4452. Check out the updated guest speaker bios on the Irish draught website.

Aidan O'Connell is here giving a Clinic & he has a good point about marketing
our horses---I think it has come up before---about the versatility of the IDs.
They can be *every man's* horse or they can compete at the top levels.
But we all know there are many more riders at the hobby or pleasure levels
than the upper levels.
Hopefully, this Fair will grow, move around different areas, & we won't be preaching
to the choir!!!!!

Good point. The North East has a huge market of amatuer riders competing. The sensibilty and althletic ability is what drew me in {amatuer rider over 40} . Breeders are bringing horses for sale. We {Denny and I} were just talking about sites for next year. His place is absolutly breathtaking and really gives the flavor of an Irish Horse Fair but, it's not set up as a facility for big events. I hope he never changes it. For this year, I am beyond happy with every bit of it. AND....he said we can serve Guinness during the event. WHOOO HOO!!!! I'm relaxing already. CRF

Bumping this back up because I just got back from the horse show portion today. 'Had a great time viewing fine horses from an Irish perspective (ah, which should not be confused with looking at things through beer goggles.
Or should it?.
Well there really were some nice horses there anyway.)
Not sure if any of you COTHers were there too but I got to meet some nice folks as well. (I was the lady holding all the safety vests and sticks and bits by the stadium course.)
Tip o' the hat to Denny et al for putting this shindig together.
