Can anyone point me in the direction of farms who have young QH's where you have found stuff for the hunter ring. We used to have a great QH farm nearby that we bought lots of babies from and they are no longer there and I would really love to find another place. The babies we got from there were typically western broke but came along really quickly had the BEST brains and a lot of them ended up being really cute childrens hunter types. Suggestions?

The World Championship Show sale is a great place to buy prospects for the hunter ring alot of yearling and two year olds, that are going to be huge. The good part is the hunter people look for something a little different then the QH huntseat people so alot of really nice ones can be purchased really inexspensively. You can also go to Pleasurehorse.com and check out all there advertiser's and stllion links for all of the current breeders.
Absolutely love the Last Detail's awsome trotters and usually have beautifull heads, mine placed well at Devon.

The PS Sign the Card horses are NICE. I have ridden a few. Very classy! April is very nice. Check out her site at http://www.prairiestarhorses.com/

Kory Merrill does have nice horses also. Definately somone to check out on the east coast.

Also, Jerry Erickson has a horse named Sonnys Hot Jazz (http://www.sonnyshotjazz.com/) Who produces really nice fence horses.

You can also check with Jason Martin (http://www.highpointperformance.com/) or Chuck Briggs in Azle, TX.

I used to work at Huges Quarter Horses in Burleson, TX and we sold a lot of our youngsters to the hunter ring. www.Hughesquarterhorses.com (the site is not updated) You may want to contact Paris too see what she has now.

Good luck. Let me know if you need anymore names.

There was an outstanding Sonny's Hot Jazz baby that won one of the O/F classes at the IHF West Coast final in 99, I think. I called Jerry at the time to try to buy a prospect and they were so popular they didn't have any left!

Where're you located? Mine came from Montana - stereotypical cow-horse and quarter horse country. Daley-Newton Quarter Horses. They breed for a very athletic type horse, and have a fairly well-established, respected program. A lot of their horses end up doing hunt-seat - either on the AQHA circuit or - atleast mine'll hopefully do well - on the open circuit.

Here's a little article from HuntSeatHorses.com - a site that focuses on AQHA hunters.

Check Stauffer Farms (http://www.staufferfarms.com). That was the home of Scotch Bar Time. Scotch has passed, but they breed his daughters to stallions in different disciplines (reining, WP, huntseat, etc) and always have some for sale. Can't find a better mind, but sometimes they're too smart for their own good.

I second anything Jerry is involved with. Hes a tremendous rider, stallion manager and judge.

Another great AQHA person is Nancy Sue Ryan http://www.showstopfarm.com/

Lines that you could search for on sale sites:
Invitation Only http://invitationonlyllc.com
Sonnys Hot Jazz
Artful Move http://www.artfulmove.com
Sky Blue Walker http://www.skybluewalker.com (some of these can be a little less QH minded so try before you buy...but they are beautiful and great athletes)

too many others to list...im sure ill kick myself for forgetting an important one after i submit

Ditto trying the World Show or AQHYA World Show, or even Congress. Try Jason Martin/Charlie Cole at Highpoint Performance Horses www.highpointperformance.com, they have a few prospects for sale and could probably point you in the right direction.

Actually Jerry hasn't owned Sonnys Hot Jazz for over a year now. He's standing in Kentucky now. Great horse! Jerry is showing one of SHJ sons right now, Jazz CD, and has put an AQHA Championship on him. Looks like he's following in his father's footprints.

Aww, I used to ride a horse named Sonny Go Ray who I think might have been by the same sire as Sonny's Hot Jazz. I remember my instructor back then talking about him. The stud at that barn I rode at as a kid was Hot Jazz's full brother--A Connecting Flight. He was gorgeous, and a very sweet tempered guy.

(Any AQHA people able to look up Sonny Go Ray for me? I'm just curious as to where he ended up and what his relation was to Hot Jazz now...)

My hunter trainer is the agent for Bridwell Farms who is having a complete dispersal. I have had Achevia, Encorica and Louisiana Swamp bred horses and they are great minded and jump the best. These lines are best known on the QH circuit for the fence horses as oppossed to the rail horses. The following information was taken from the sale info I posted for my trainer on my website. Pricing and contact information can be found at http://www.lousianasaturdaynite.com/forsale.htm Hopefully this doesn't violate any forum rules. I wasn't sure how to word it all! ;-)

"Bridwell Farms, known for the Encoriva, Achieva and Louisiana Swamp QH line of horses, is selling all of their stock.

This includes 2009 foals, yearlings, 2 year olds, 3 year olds and a few 4 year olds and up sired by Achieva, LousianaSaturdayNite and some of the last Louisiana Swamp get. Also for sale are all the broodmares, including daughters of Encoriva. Several mares in foal to LousianaSaturdayNite for 2010 foals. All well proven producers.

These mares and young horses are the result of a carefully cultivated and successful breeding program that has produced many QH Congress Champions, AQHA Hi Point Champions and even AQHA World Champions in addition to countless Hunter Circuit Champions."

Yes, if you're looking for QHs they seem to be a dime a dozen out here. REALLY nice young QHs sell for under 1,000.00 at catalog auctions here. The horse economy is very bad out here.

If I were in the market for an AQHA or to breed a mare I would without a doubt go to Prairie Star. PS Sign the Card in just gorgeous. My daughter has coveted him and his babies since she first laid eyes on him.
