For those of you that have the Mattes half pad, did you find the sizing guide they give to be fairly true to size? :confused:My saddle is 17" and per the measurements, I need a small half pad. I guess in my head I was figuring a medium would fit. Before I order, im just curious if any of those of you that have this pad went by their sizing and found it to be pretty correct.
Thanks so much!

I bought a Mattes pad a few years back and hated it because it was too big and would slip sideways under the saddle all the time. My saddle was a 18" and I think I got whatever size the Dover catalog recommended for that size saddle. I ended up selling the pad so I would double check and make sure the size it right. I do think they run large...

It all depends on whether it's a Mattes with rear trim or not.
My saddles are 17,5inch, I have a "L" correction Mattes pad with rear trim, perfect fit for that saddle.
However I also have a regular half pad without rear trim and there my 17,5inch saddle takes a medium.
I prefer Mattes with rear trim, keeps it better in place at the rear. :)

My 16.5" CC uses a M and with my 17" dressage I usa a L. I guess the dressage saddle *could* use a M, because there is some extra room, but I didn't want it too small...and it stays in place well.

I have a large Mattes half pad without the rear trim and it fits my 17" Kieffer Wien DL fine. There is a little "extra" off the cantle, but I've never had any slipage issues... I do prefer the half pads with the rear trim (I've got a Fleeceworks that I like also) but don't have any issues with the one I've got.

I think it depends on the saddle. If it has extended panels you need more pad. I have two 18-inch saddles and they take the large Mattes half pad. My 17.5 inch saddle fits in the medium. I like to have the pad extend an inch past the panels rather than resting on the edge of the fleece.
