Just wondering if anyone can give me a insider route to Wilsonville for the shows there. We will be coming from Boise and I would sure like to know the best time to try to get through the Portland area or if there is a way to avoid that area altogether!
We have a large rv and horse trailer etc and have never been there, so any help with traffic or back ways to the facility would be very much appreciated.

84 to 205 to I-5 getting off at wilsonville rd is really stright forward and easy to find.
I live in wilsonville and thats the quickest way. Try to avoid traffic 7-9am and 4-6pm in the portland metro area. Good Luck at Hunter Creek :)

If it were me I would come through Central Oregon, come through Ontario, Hwy 20 through Burns, Bend, Sisters, to Salem and up I-5 and then take the Wilsonville exit. I do believe it is a shorter trip, much more scenic and less traffic.

The good thing about Oregonians is that we/they all pile into one lane, creating the perception of "traffic" when really, the other two lanes are completely open. I lived there for 11 years and am still amazed by this phenomenon when I visit. :)
The central route sounds nice, but the 84-205-5 is probably a lot more straightforward and full of nice, wide freeways. I also seem to remember the central route taking a really, really long time (I used to live very close to Wilsonville) but it is very pretty. Google, for one, estimates that the Bend route takes over 9 hours, while taking the 84 in is about 7. I'd suggest the 84 for straightforwardness, and since it's Oregon, there's plenty of pretty no matter where you go.

I'd extend that afternoon "to avoid" time on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday to a 3-6 time frame, especially coming south through that ugly 205 to I-5 merge.
Huntercreek is super easy to find, thank goodness! You'll have a blast. Sigh. I'm not doing any A shows this year, but I hope to spectate. I have a 12 year old daughter of a friend who really wants to get into jumping, and I think a little HC spectating could do the trick!

Absolutely do not go this way. oh yes it is scenic. but 2 land and winding a good part of the way. If you are hauling horses and driving an RV best to stick to I84. Nice grades, 4 lane, nice curves. The Hwy 20 route through Central Oregon [read, Burns and Bend] will take you at least just as long.
I am a commercial hauler and I have done both. Trust me to say the horses will ride a whole lot easier on I84.

time for both these routes is about the same if you are pulling a horse trailer. Check out the average speed Google gives you on I84 versus Hwy 20. Google uses posted limits, and I84 has higher posted limits. Distance is about the same. But for sure you want I84 over Hwy 20.

I205 and I5 in Portland during rush hour, and yes that means around 3 to 6 in the afternoon particularly on I205 and the spin offs from I5 are just as full as if you were in the San Francisco Bay Area at the same time of day. The only diff in the Bay Area is that there are more than 2 lanes per side and folks do drive faster than in Portland--we Oregonians have to obey those posted limits and conserve fuel.

Hmmm, how is it on a Sunday? I'm going to try and weasel my way in on Sunday! What is ugly about the 205 to I-5 merge? Things pretty clearly marked from 84 to 205?
I have a 21 year old gal who is pulling this 40' travel trailer behind a Dodge dually and this will only be her second time pulling it, so I sure want to make it as easy and less stressful for her as possible!
I think 20 sounds pretty, but I have done that to Bend and it was a lot of 2 lane! We will have to do it anyway because we go from Wilsonville to Bend and then on home.
Again thanks for the assistance, I love to go to new places but hate it when I don't have a good idea of where the heck I am going!

Well I can't speak for the highways you're considering, but on Sunday traffic in Portland is pretty normal. Meaning that even at 'rush hour' everyone's going the speed limit or above.
