Do any companies still make bridles that aren't fancy stitched, padded or raised? As in just a plain, old flat bridle. For under $100, that doesn't look like crap? Thanks! :)

There was one in the State Line Tack catalog I got today, but no idea on quality. It was around $60.

Yes! I am not sure of the quality but this one sounds pretty good. I have a raised padded figure 8 bridle made by Paris Tack and it is and it is an excellent bridle. I think they are usually called hunt bridles so if you go searching maybe try that.

Look for "hunt bridles" or check at shops that cater to foxhunters. The simple, flat bridles are traditional for hunting.

I know Courbette and Bobby's both make versions, but I'm not sure as to the price.

Yes, Bartville Harness Shop makes one. They are the contract supplier for the Nunn Finer products, but they sell a lot of other stuff too--including a luscious, top-quality Flat Hunt Bridle in havana with hook or buckle ends and brass or nickel hardware, cob/horse/oversize. Priced $83-$94, plus a 15% off sale at the end of this month. Search the Eventing forum for "Bartville" to learn more about this tack shop.

Bartville--YES! Beautiful bridles. None of that flimsy, skinny stuff you see so often.

The Old Habit in Marshall, VA has a flat Bobby's hunt bridle for traditional "sewn in" bit and reins. I lust for it. :)

Horse Country in Warrenton, VA has some in their catalog which look beautiful but expensive, www.horsecountrylife.com (http://www.horsecountrylife.com).

You should ask on the hunting forum as flat bridles are traditionally required in the hunt field, I'm sure you will get a large response there.

Our local tack shop has them in your price range for the fox hunters in our area but I have to say they are not the nicest leather.

And keep an eye on Tack of the Day (http://www.tackoftheday.com). They sold some nice ones a few weeks ago and I love mine :D

If you can find a Smith Worthington dealer they can help you with a decent quality flat bridle for a fair price. I've had good service from mine for several years.

Horse Country has some, and yes they are very expensive. Overpriced IMHO. They cost extra because the tag says Horse Country.
Bobby's Tack makes a decent one, I have one and am pleased with it. I hunted my mare 4 days a week in it last season (I'm a whip) and it held up nicely. www.eqtack.com

But if you don't have a gone-white grey or a palomino (or a paint with white up there or a cremello or...) you should be fine.

Wow. none of mine have ever let dye go or anything when I cleaned it.
Never noticed it on my horse but she's a red bay.

Bartville DEFINATELY! They do mail order as well. I just discovered them a few months ago, and my friend bought one of the bridles when we were there. LOVE IT! I would give up my Courbette and Stubben bridle in a heartbeat, for the Bartville bridle. She's waiting until the sale to pick up the matching breastplate and girth.
