Always an eventer??!! Well looks like it is still in the blood anyways! I grew up eventing, "back in the day" when eventing was, well really EVENTING. I loved it, I lived for it, and I evented basically until 2001 (although from mid - late 90's it was less and less due to other life changes). My last event was the last one held at Ft. Bragg, where the mare I was riding in her first ever event finished 2nd. I put it "behind me" so to speak, other than going to soem events to watch my stallion compete and we have been olding some dressage/CT schooling shows at my farm. But basically I have been doing a lot with the hunter/jumper shows as well as having several student showing the hunters in breed shows. Well I was asked the other week to do a small introductory clinic on cross country jumping at a NICE place not too far from me. They have TONS of BEAUTIFUL land (600 acres!). JUst a few VERY EASY log jumps etc in place now. GOing to do a little clinic on the 28th, and in the course of visiting, me and the owner, plus two of my students that board there got into a discussion of building a CC course, holding small intor level events (beg novice and below) which are SORELY lacking nowadays, something affordable, fun, but well run and I found myself sticking my hand up in the air saying "YES YES YES lets DO IT!". OMG what am I getting back into?! But honestly I'd LOVE the opportunity to do this again. So look for HOPEFULLY in the VERY NEAR future (possibly this fall!) a SMALL intro level event VERY close to Raleigh, NC. And if it flys maybe an expansion for next spring! Now this is still in the works, nothing set in stone (except the little clinic I am doing the end of june) but very exciting for me!

I think so. I evented as a teen in the 70s, then no eventing from 1980-1996 due to being in college/grad school/start-up company with limited funds/time/transportation. As soon as I got my first "real" job in 1996, I immediately found an eventing barn and have continued to event since, including my first preliminary (in 2000) and two long format CCI* (in 2003).

I agree, after taking 9 years off from actually competing myself, I decided to give it another shot and I'm hooked again...no more watching from the sidelines, I'll be competing next season!

Me too! I ventured into hunter-land with a lovely TB who preferred hunters to eventing, and it ended up being a 7 year hiatus. Well, no more! Sold the lovely hunter and picked up a freebie eventer (talk about being in the right place at the right time), and now I am BACK IN THE GAME!!!!!!

count me in as a once and eventer, always an eventer. I rode through the cci* in the late 90's then college, and two rounds of grad school... started up again with a project "pony" in 06 and am in love all over again.

the sport is definitely different, but nothing can make xc un-fun.

GO DO IT! and congrats at returning to the ranks. now you can show those young-uns what's up!
