We all know about the quality of Primitive Rising as the sire of event horses. He was, oddly enough, a US bred, by Raise A Man out of Periquito. Looking at their pedigrees, it would seem to me that Periquito was really something special, http://www.pedigreequery.com/periquito and Raise a Man added some nice lines to what she brought to the table. FWIW, Primitive Rising's Dosage Index was 17.00.
At any rate, Periquito had a full sister to Primitive Rising, named Timely Raise. Both Periquito and Timely Raise got sent to the UK after Primitive Rising's sterling but short racing career. Timely Raise produced quite a few foals, but the only one who did anything at all on the race track was named Poker Chip. Timely Raise ended up in Germany.
What might make this interesting to some of y'all is that those lines--Periquito and Raise a Man are still around (I do believe) in the United States in the backwaters of the racing world. In fact, there is a mare name Lac La Tina, by Lac Ouimet, out of a Periquito daughter who is/was breeding in Michigan. She had a 2001 race mare named Zes Tee who would be a wonderful prospect for eventing or an eventing brood mare. http://www.pedigreequery.com/zes+tee She's got Little Hut, she's got Bagdad (Double Jay x Bazura), she's got Roberto and Lear Fan's dam sire, Lt. Stevens, Periquito, Pleasant Colony, Fappiano, Precipitation, etc. etc. The owner and breeder are on PQ. Heck, Ze's Tee had a whale of a lot of starts--almost 50, which seems to be fairly common with the Periquito's except for Primitive Rising. Sefa's Beauty had almost 60 starts and is buried at the Kentucky HP. Seems to me that's an indication that her granddaughter is made for eventing. :) Lac Ouimet raced and won graded stakes through age 7. Ze's Tee's jumping lines are special.
If you ever see Periquito in a pedigree, look very closely at the horse in front of you because it might be really well bred for eventing. You might find her here or in the UK/Ireland through Timely Raise and HER daughters or through the foals that she had after her export.
