UPDATE- SPEEDY HAS BEEN PLACED IN A NEW LOVING HOME!! THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST AND SUPPORT :)
Peppermint Speedy is a 9 yo ex-race horse who I am hoping to place in a great new home. He has an awesome personality, is easy to work around, and gets along with everyone. He is dripping with potential to be someone’s favorite horse. I am in the process of completing grad school and starting a new career, and so I just don’t have time for this nice boy.
Speedy was on the track until he was four and started a bunch of times. He is a little green for his age, but I have taken him out on trails alone and with others, through water, galloped him in open fields, shipped him places, ridden him in lessons, done some light jumping (I don’t jump), ridden him bareback while a picnic was going on next to the ring, and (when he was in steady work) used him for pony rides with my non-riding family without hesitation.
Speedy has sat for the last two years while I have been busy with school. I have ridden him very inconsistently. When I made the decision to go to grad school I tried selling him, but around the same time I listed him he started to have some issues with his right front. So I decided to turn him out for a bit and give him a chance to rest. Just a few weeks ago, I put him back to work and while he was better, he still wasn’t 100%. I called the vet and had a lameness evaluation done. The cause of his ouchiness is his right front lower leg, likely the ankle joint. We put him on an arthritis medication and he is going much better. I am comfortable to say he is serviceably sound and that his maintenance is fairly typical of a TB off the track. The vet believes that with some work he will get even better. We also discussed joint injections as a possible additional treatment.
Speedy would be ideal for a strong, dedicated rider who is looking for a fun horse to enjoy and spoil. He is willing and sane and with the right amount of praise will do just about anything you ask of him. Why a strong rider? Like any TB left unchecked for two years, Speedy is feeling his oats lately. With calm, consistent work I am sure he would be for anyone the mellow guy that I have grown to love but I just don’t have time to tune him up. Because of his maintence needs and needing a strong rider at first, I have decided to try giving him away to the right person. I really want this horse to find a great home!
Please let me know if you or anyone you know has any interest and feel free to shoot me questions. I am going to try to get a link up with some pictures also. I really love this horse, but just can’t be the ideal rider and mom for him. I hope to find him a better situation where he will get more attention. Thanks for reading my really long-winded description! Take care!
