Finally, one of these psychos gets more than a slap on the wrist for shooting and killing animals.

That's pretty stiff, but I have no problem with that.

Maybe stiff when compared to the usual slap on the wrist monsters like this get but I don't find the sentencing harsh at all. Kudos to the young man's parents for refusing to let bail be lowered.

The North Koreans would call this punishment the mere equivalent of their verbal warning ;)

It's better than they usually get but I would like to see it even more harsh for such a terrible act of cruelty.
I'm not usually a fan of the National Enquirer but I will admit to reading it in a long grocery line recently and I was thrilled to see that they had an article encouraging people to write to the judge in a case where a man beat his horse to death with a sledge hammer to ask the judge for the maximum penalty. They even included the address for the letters and a picture of the monster who did it.

Sounds like justice has been served.
And kudos to his parents for not sticking up for his behavior.
If he had gotten just a "slap on the wrist" what would be next, shooting a person? Probably where some killers start their "career in crime" killing defenseless animals.
For his sake, and for the sake of society, I hope he can get some counselling to prevent this from happening again.
And may it be a lesson to other offenders out there.

Oh, he's a pretty one.
If there is any justice he'll be someone girlfriend within 24 hours.
Liquor may explain why he did what he did but it doesn't absolve him. He is solely responsible for his actions.
I'm fine with the sentence.
My condolences to the owner.

That is a pretty stiff sentence. Expect a sentence appeal. Hopefully it is upheld by a higher court because then it will be a stonger precedent for other similar cases.
Guns and alcohol...great combination

He did more than shoot horses - there were other crimes committed that night as well.
I Love this part:
"His Parents did not allow his bond to be lowered preventing him from an early release.
Excuse me!? He was over 21 when he did the crime - let me guess he was still at "home" with Ma & Pa enabler - geesh!
Where is my clue club - Not for him but for hos parents who enabled him to become the monster he now is

Lots of people still live with their parents when the are 21. I am NOT defending him AT ALL, but there is a possibility he was at school still and living with parents. I wish he had the 10 & 10 sentance instead of the 6 & 6, and he should be paying all vet bills for remaining horse, as well as money for the deceased horse for all final expenses and fair market value, and then some! I don't think with what little is released in this article you can turn it on the parents though, they at least stood up and said not to let him out.

True! I'm sure each and every one of us knows at least one family where the child is totally out of control, no matter how hard the parents try to raise the child right.
So, not fair to blame the parents.
And once the child is an "adult" he should be responsible for his own actions, no matter how good or bad his parents were at child rearing.

Thank God no one made his bail, he's been in jail longer than most animal killers. He'll be out in about 6 months for "good behavior" and jail overcrowding.
Everyone should email/write/call the prosecutor for recommending 10 to serve, and even thank the judge for that 6 yrs to serve. I'm sure if the guy had been out on bond, the judge would not have given him six years, but at least he didn't give him "time served". Attaboy letters realy help reinforce good behavior by prosecutors and judges.
I would hope that he goes to Raiford, but he'll probably go to a prison camp where he can watch tv in air-conditioned comfort.
I just hope his probation officer has horses.

If he pled guilty there might not be a provision for sentence review. What is the minimum in Florida, anyone know? In my state, next door, no sentence review unless you get 12 yrs to serve.
And apparently this sentence was non-negotiated, since he got less than the state's recommendation.
Hopefully Florida doesn't have sentence review for 6 yr sentences. Plus he will be out in 6 months, 1/2 of 6 yrs minus the 2 1/2 yrs he's served is 6 months.

The sentence wasn't long enough in my opinion but with a bit of luck he'll have a miserable time in prison to make it a little more like justice.

He should be shot in the head. Take him out of the gene pool.

God, where I live, he would have had to kill the owner in addition to the two horses to get that much time, especially considering he has been in custody since apprehended. No sentence appeal in the case of guilty pleas? Wow you guys don't fool around. Big thumbs up from me.

 I am SO SICK of these assholes blaming their rotten badboy spoiled child angry sadistic behavior on their:
Parents-drugs-drinking-bad friends- upbringing etc. You made it to 21 years of age-you dam well know right from wrong. Shooting someones horses just for the hell of it-you should do ALL the time no time off for good behavior. You could have had good behavior BEFORE you shot them. Heres hoping...:mad: he gets bunked with a 400 lb sadistic Bubba who needs a new bitch... And kudos to his parents who obviously know he belongs where he is.

"I am not the monster you say I am," from the article.
Pray tell, then, just what kind of monster ARE you??? A$$hole!! What sort of monster goes up to an innocent animal and shoots it in the head???
I only wish he'd get a tougher sentence. Life would be too good for him.

Finally a Judge gets tough on a cruelty case and to me, it is justice served. Much less than what I think should have been given but much more than what is normally given.

He was over 21, drunk, out of control and had a gun.........he shot 2 innocent horses, he could have shot 2 innocent people........
It is good the judge gave him at least the 6 years and not time served.
Maybe the next time something like this happens. a judge will remember, and also give out a suitably stiff (er) sentence.
At least his parents knew he should be in jail.
