Hi, I have posted questions on the site before and find you all so very helpful!

I have a Weser-ems filly that was born in April. I just received the Abfohlmeldung and I was going to fill out the Weser-ems FOAL/YEARLING REGISTRATION form on the OHBS website.

My question is, is the 9 figure reference number on the Abfohlmeldung the foal registration number??
Thank you!

Yes, I believe the number from the Abfohlmeldung goes in the field for the foal registration number. You might want to print out the form before you hit submit, and bring the print-out to the inspection. Be sure to also bring the Abfohlmeldung.

Thank you so much!
I will be sure to bring the Abfohlmeldung with me to the inspection.

Now you have me stumped and I have bred numerous Weserr-Ems foals. What is the Abfohlmeldung and where do you get it? Is this the form from the stallion owner?

I believe the Abfohlmeldung is Notification of foaling.

I found this on the British Hanoverian Horse Society website, I assume it is similar for the Weser Ems:
When the owner of a registered mare has advised our office the previous year of the covering of the said mare he also receives an Abfohlmeldung (Notification of foaling) in the beginning of the year. The birth of the foal as well as the information required are to be noted in this document. It is the basis for issuing a pedigree paper. If your mare bears a living foal you keep the Abfohlmeldung for the present without filling in anything. You hand the document to the Society's representative who registers the foal, brands it on the left hip and fills in this Abfohlmeldung. He will keep the first sheet and give both the copies to you . In case a mare did not come in foal please fill this in yourself in the appropriate column of the Abfohlmeldung and send it back to Germany immediately. If your mare has a still born foal or if the foal dies before it is branded, then please fill in the Abfohlmeldung as well. In these cases, however, the date of birth and the sex of the foal must also be indicated.
When the Abfohlmeldung is processed each horse receives a reference number of 9 figures, the so-called life number, which applies for its whole life.

Hope that helps....

The Abfohlmeldung is used in Germany. GRP, I assume your mare was bred in Germany and then imported - correct?

Yes, that is correct. Since my mare is in Canada now, will I not get a Abfohlmeldung for a foal next year?
Thanks

I doubt you will get one now that the mare lives in Canada. You probably only received it this year because the mare was bred in Germany before importation, and the previous owner has your address and had reported to the Verband that your mare had been bred.

I agree. I have bred several Weser-Ems foals and never recieved one. You will not have any problems at inspections though...so no problem there.

Agree. For future foals, you would just bring your breeding certificate signed by the stallion owner or agent, and inseminating vet.

Don't forget that you now need to pre-register through the office for inspections. There are online forms on the website at http://www.oldenburghorse.com/Oldbrg-Inspections.htm . Look under "Sign-up forms."
