Just posting as a warning to those of you in my area. I have a small private farm near the Chester Co./Delaware Co. boarder. I was at a CCHSA show this past Sunday, and sometime between 8am when I left and 5:30pm when I returned I had my barn robbed. They got into my tack room and took my vintage western pony saddle, bridles, halters, leads, shampoos, leg wraps, and rummaged through all my cabinets and drawers.
The worst part of it all was that they turned my stall bound pony out in my pasture. He has hock/tendon issues behind and cannot be turned out yet. I am unsure of when he was put out, but it was long enough to swell his leg back up pretty good. Thankfully, it has gone down and there doesnt seem to be any more damage. It just makes me sick that someone would put him out like that.
The neighboring farm to mine also had their trailer broken into, but nothing was in there to take.
Just please everyone keep their things locked up tight! Thankfully I had my personal (and new) tack and things with me at the show, but they still made out with my entire halter collection (i had a problem with collecting them, there was a TON), and some other things. They went through my blankets, I am assuming looking at sizes. They left all my 10", 12", and 18" pillows/ no-bows, but took all my 14" and 16" ones. So I am assuming it is a horse person looking for average sized horse things.
I hope this will not happen to anyone else. But for safe keepings, PLEASE keep an eye on everything at your farms.

Thanks for the heads up. I no longer live in that area but last year at my barn in SE Chester County, I had stuff taken. Not saddles just random stuff that made me think it was a horse person needing supplies. They took a couple of girths, a bridle, a helmet and most of my vet supplies. Took all my vet wrap, pillow wraps, poultice and bute as well as some other stuff.
Shame is if they had asked I most probably would have given them the vet stuff, to help them out if they truly needed it and didn't have the funds.

Very scary! I'm in that area now and I've been to visit a few barns besides the one I'm at and no one had locks on their tack rooms and even the trunks that had locks i'm sure would be easily picked up and cracked into later.
Then again if someone is really determined to steal things they usually will :(

That's true, but let's make it as hard for them as we can .

Could this be the work of that woman who was trying to sell your horse on the internet?????
Any clues as to who the thieves were? Nosy neighbors or grandmas at home with nothing else to do but watch the road are like gold in a time like this.
Pick up the phone and call the pawn shops, tack shops, and watch ebay, yard sales advertising horse items with a radius of ...200 miles or so. Have you filed a police report (Not that they will do jack to get your items back) but you will have established a paper trail. Have fingerprints lifted yes you will have to cleanup the dust but it is worth it.
Believe it or not you can usually find your stolen items if you do the legwork. It's not like they have been vaporised they are still there and probably closer than you think.

the police were out when I discovered it all missing. they took a list of things missing, but that was it. I took it upon myself to take photos of how the room was left/etc.
I have no idea who this could be. the trainer from before has since moved south, so I highly doubt she has anything to do with it. They also got into my 2 neighboring farms. Nothing was taken as both are just older retiree horses, so no tack or anything like that was at the barns.
all of this is in with the police report, but they told me to claim it on the insurance. They did not seem too hopeful to get any of it back.
I have called all the consignment shops in the area, as well as most farms to let them know. I will be keeping an eye on craigslist/ebay/etc. and plan to head up to New Holland on monday to see if they are trying to sell any of it there.

Hi,
We run a consignment and new tack store in Quarryville, I was wondering if you had some pictures of the stolen tack so we could be on the look out if anyone brings them in.
Thanks,

Oh thank God for that. Alas, that "trainer" was the first person I thought of. :(
Hope the cops can find the riff raff  and get your stuff back.

You know, I had some items stolen out of my horse trailer some time ago. The officer did not even get out of the car. He took my report while seated in his vehicle. I asked him if he wanted to look in the trailer, or if they could finger print the door- he did not get enthused.
It really made me wonder what the heck they do, other than the weigh station over on Rt. 100?

That just sucks. I'd be checking Carper's auction in Hightstown NJ as well. There is a sale there every Wednesday evening.

I appreciate it .. I am trying to find some photos, but am having a hard time finding any that you can remotely see details.
I will post them if I find any!

Sorry for your losses and the sense of violation that comes from being robbed.
Turning out the pony sounds kind of personal, unless they needed to do so to get to your stuff. I wonder if the culprit is somebody you know. Is the pony okay now?

People really suck, don't they.
I'd also contact Camelot Auction. IIRC, they sell used tack before the horses go in. Does NH sell tack too?? I haven't been there in years so I have no idea.
It's probably too far away for the thieves to go, but I'd also let Horseman's Outlet in Lebanon, NJ know too. You never know and they are known for thier large consignment area.

Sorry to hear about this.
Both New Holland and Harker auctions sell tack.
I would also contact any consignment stores and let them know. Equine Exchange and Horse Connection are fairly close. Might be worth it to give them a heads up.
