I've been worried about her as well. I was thinking it was something I said in an email that was meant to be encouraging but I thought was maybe taken wrong. I have not heard from her since she was leaving to drive out to try and get the horses from 3 strikes. I will email her again! I know the horses got out and are with the Colorado Horse Rescue so I assumed everything had gone well.

I think y'all might be worrying too much. If you click on her public profile, it shows her last activity on Jun. 8, 2009 10:18 PM.

I think she is trying to finish up this semester at vet school and possibly transfer, so I think she has her hands full.

Hi Guys!

I'm here.

Sadly I had some horrible experiences recently with involving horse rescue. I've decided it is impossible for me to keep rescuing horses, with this economy, being in vet school, etc. When I am out of vet school, maybe. I'm glad Marli has brought up the topic of 501c3. I've been surrounded by those which are not legit.

Thank god Colorado Horse Rescue is amazing. They are the only one (that I've visited, no offense Sunkissed Acres!) I can whole-heartingly recommend without a doubt.

Our last adoptable rescue horse left last week, and the adopters check just bounced. Just one example....

We have two rescue horses that will live here forever. I'm so grateful that the horses we have adopted all have amazing homes. There's been over 50 in the past 3 years. I'm still trying to set up the details of the youth outreach program this summer, and we have some programs that will help horse owners BEFORE they have to rehome/auction their horse. We just won't be accepting any horses into our program.

I cleared out my PM inbox. My email's margaret.desarno@gmail.com.

Thanks guys :)

*ANYONE* who has done the amount of rescue work that you have done is entitled to an emotional slump, and some down time. You have a lot on your plate, what with school and all of this rescue & outreach work. Take the time you need for yourself, to heal from all of these bruises inflicted by the less noble of our species.

You do what you can; what that is changes from time to time. That's okay.

FP - I'm so glad you checked in. I figured you'd just been swamped with school - but am terribly sorry to learn of your troubles with.... the incident shall we say.

I never could figure out how you kept your sanity with school, a life, horses, rescue.... all I can say is you have my complete respect.

And I mean that sincerely.

Thankfully I delivered him, and didn't transfer full ownership.....
It wasn't a lot. This horse was a steal, to a great home..... :(

Thanks so much for the kind words, girls ;) This is so true. Sometimes, people just suck. But everything happens for a reason... If nothing else, when I have a client that wants a coggins test for a horse they plan on selling at the weekly auction, I can provide them with lots of facts and resources about where their horse may wind up....

I'm so glad to have a break from school. This summer has been sooo cold (I love it). 63 degrees here right now! Our own horses are finally getting the attention they deserve. And our house may finally get the remodeling work we've been saying we'll do for the past 3 years.

Margaret - you know I am behind you! And monstrpony is absolutely spot on - you know, crap happens. And it happens a lot. Don't let it force us to lose you and your efforts.

Hopefully, Margaret will get into school in colo, and get the grant she deserved for her rescue.

I'm dismayed that she was not included in the last contest to get money for rescues, so that she would have a little working capital.

Colorado TB Rescue chose not to participate in the last contest. Margaret knows she is always welcome to be part of any fundraiser SpecialHorses.org puts on. :)

Awwwwwwwww Margaret, how sorry I am to lose you in rescue but...............I know your heart will tell you what is right. Yes, people often suck dont they. And we deal with the suckiest on one end and the best on the other. Never discount all you have done. Take time to heal thineself, its important. You're important.

Twice I have felt like just giving up. Once when the barn burned down and I didnt know how I could possibly begin again and then when all my old folks got aflotoxin poisoning. I never felt so alone even though there were so many behind me. It was I who lived here 24/7.

Personally, I will still value your experience and wisdom and know you will have much to offer rescue when you do finish school. Take the break you need so badly.

And please, make sure one day you do visit me so that I can get on the same pedestal as Colorado Horse Rescue.

Spot on.

I know this is a tough time, and I thought there were other rescues who needed the help a lot more than us ;) I heard the fundraiser was a great success. Great job, girls.

Remember Margaret - when you are a vet, we want you on board as our "Ask Dr. Margaret!!!"

And in general - sometimes the rescues join in, sometimes they don't - although we don't require them to do much (that's part of our mission!) sometimes the contact people simply have too much on their plate. Ours is an open door! As long as you are a legit 501(c)3 rescue, whose sole focus is on equine fostering, rehab, rescue, hippotherapy or TH, and who work directly with the horses in this capacity, AND you are a COTH member, you're in!
