Elvis came in last thursday night with a puncture wound on his back right above the coronary band. We started him right away on antibiotics and bute but he is still unable to walk.
Vet took x-rays and joint fluid today and thinks there might be bacteria in his coffin joint. We're flushing it three times in the next week but if that doesn't work then the prognosis isn't good...
I'd love some jingles and prayers if you can spare any!

Those kinds of injuries can have a poor prognosis, but if the right antibiotic can be found quickly, sometimes they fight them fine.
Our vets used lavage/perfusion to the area directly thru a blood vessel low on the leg and that helps some horses by keeping the bacteria at bay, until their own immune system can fight, which takes a couple or three weeks.

Don't know what to say about the pain, as such injuries are definitely extremely painful.
Supporting the other leg/legs helps.

Are the cultures reading clearly, so they can tell what bacteria is in there and sensitive to what antibiotics?

I had a horse with a bad puncture, took a LOT of time and a LOT of antibiotics but he recovered 100% with only a little scar.
