I was surprised they kept the camera on her as long as they did; there was a moment when I thought for sure she was going to collapse. If there's one thing racetracks get right, it's being johnny-on-the-spot with veterinary treatment in situations like these.
Here's to hoping that the worst to come out of it is that there is no winner's circle photo...

Question - do they draw a vial of blood for post race testing before they inject anything to treat her? I understand from the commentary they were probably giving her banamine and steroids while she was still standing there. Anyone know?

I understood they were giving her steroids and tranquilizer...tranq. to calm her down, so she wouldn't move around, expend more energy, which would get her respiration and heart rate up, keep it up, and get her hot/hotter...as they were trying to cool her off
But, I haven't heard an update either...anyone????

From the article just posted on the Blood Horse (http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/51140/gabbys-golden-gal-wires-acorn-field):
Gabby’s Golden Gal had a bit of an overheating issue when she returned to be unsaddled. She was bathed down and did not get her picture taken in the winner’s circle. But she looked fine while walking back to the barn area.

Let me try and clarify my question. As the winner, she would have gone to the test barn to pee and have blood drawn for post race drug testing. Since they were administering drugs to her before she left the track, did they first draw blood to be tested before they gave her anything?

The "steroids and tranquilizer" thing was what was said by the commentators. Having had a horse come back from a race and start tying up, and helped with several others, I'm sure it was more like banamine and something else, or just banamine.
Anyone else who has had a horse get over heated notice that the people spraying the horse down weren't spraying the spots that you should spray to cool them down faster?? (between the front and hind legs and on the neck and head) They had the head and neck, but kept spraying her side and top of her back.
