Wow oh wow! We have a live Triple Crown candidate for the first time in 20 years.

Sea the Stars wins in a canter. First Guineas/Derby winner since Nashwan in 1989.

Will he be the first Triple Crown winner since Nijinsky in 1970?

Brilliant race! Well done to Mick Kinane too, hopefully he won't be retiring just yet! Doesn't sound certain that Sea The Stars will go for the Triple Crown though. Hopefully the owners might reconsider.

And that's just Epsom Derby winners. :)

Galileo also won the Irish Derby. :)

Black Sam Bellamy won the Italian Derby.

Her offspring seem to do well in the Classics.

Sea The Stars has two to his credit now.

Galileo won two.

All Too Beautiful was 2nd in the Oaks.

and

Melikah was 2nd in the Irish Oaks and 3rd in the Oaks.

Oxx just poured some cold water on a Triple Crown attempt. Sounds like they will go the 10f route.

"He could win at any distance. He could go back to a mile, and ten furlongs is probably perfect for him."

Oxx continued: "I think the St Leger might be a bridge too far.

"I'm a believer in the Triple Crown, I think it will be won within the next ten years withall these good middle-distance stallions about, but if we were worried about the trip for the Derby I think we'd be very worried going into the Leger if we had him entered.

"We'll have to talk about it of course but this lad willbe very good over a mile, and ten furlongs.

"The International at York and the Champion Stakes at Leopardstown are obvious races and there is also the Irish Derby to think about."

Oh Yeah ! http://preconderotous.blogspot.com/

But in case you're interested, I'll be posting the video of today's Epsom Derby won by Sea The Stars in 2 - 3 hours time ... it's not the BBC feed by the way. My site is actually the archive for my hash - TVH3, but I add all sorts of 'other' entertainment on it, including horse racing greats. Only discovered this forum when I clicked on the referral. Feel free to criticise or ask for anything. I'll be recording Sunday's French Derby and posting it later. Thanks, So Cruise. (A totally mad Brit)

Looking forward to 2010 (and of course like the KY Derby anything can happen from now until then) and a seemingly very solid if not rather impressive runner: Jan Vermeer. Further evidence that with the usual suspects of Tabor/Smith/Magnier is this fondness for great artists names.

Video (French) replay of the Group 1 Prix Critérium International (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWDWvBNrQBE) which is held at Saint-Cloud in France.

The jump up on class for the November 1, 2009 (http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/international-news/2009/November/01/Jan-Vermeer-handles-class-jump-in-Criterium-International.aspx) race was no issue for the colt:

Jan Vermeer won a maiden race on September 26 at Gowran Park by 2 1/2 lengths for trainer Aidan O’Brien and owners Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Susan Magnier.

Out of the winning Pennekamp mare Shadow Song, Jan Vermeer improved to two wins from three starts. O’Brien said he was concerned about the soft ground, but Jan Vermeer handled himself far better than his stablemate.

"We were worried about the ground before the race, because his last run was on good to firm. Midas Touch began to lean a bit and maybe didn't appreciate the ground.” O’Brien told Racing Post.

“That's it for this year [for Jan Vermeer]. He appeared to have plenty of speed.”

His futures for the Derby are pegged now at 10-1
