So, when I bred my mare to Deja Blue B, I requested Ronda send me semen that would give me a Leggy bay colt with a star.
I thinks I got it!

I'm thrilled to bits--he's my first baby and I'm smitten. I can definitely see how people get addicted to having babies.
That said, my mare (TB, unraced) is just about perfect for what I want in a broodie, and I thought it would be a good idea to present her to one of the warmblood registries (Belgian?).
*I* think she's lovely, though I also admit she's not perfect, (I'd love longer neck, lower tailset, more bone) her overall conformation, movement and temperament are the best.
Is it worth going through the approvals if she's not *perfect*?
(what is perfect, anyway?) :)

Did you ask for the socks too? :D If so, please share your secrets as I can't get one single white hair on any of mine.
He's very handsome. Congrats!

OMG YUM!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!! :)
We wanted a black colt and Ronda sent us (by FedEx) a leggy bay filly with a star, but I agree with you - she is exactly what we wanted ;)
Congrats again!
You remember Lacy? We presented her to BWP last year and they loved her, so I know your mare would do well!

Ah Fairweather, how I love the babies. And, I just adore yours!!! What a perfect little boy he is. Now that you've been bitten by the breeding bug, you're in big trouble.

JER--RE the socks, I actually DID request at least one sock, and more if they could be spared. Ronda didn't even charge extra for those!!
Totally perfect Stallion Owner to work with. Funny enough--her perfect day to be bred last year (mare, not Ronda!) was July 4th. Blue was collected on specific days, so getting semen early was a little dicey.
I called around and around to find a shipping company who SURELY would deliver something on July 4th. Called the airlines to find out that no, you can't ship packages into DC without a passenger any longer, since 9/11.
I finally found on FedEx, that THEY would ship on July 4th holiday! SCORE!! I called them up, gave them my particulars, including the size, shape and weight of the package, the contents of said package (ok, thats a little awkward!) and the voice on the other end of the line very seriously said.....
That will be SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS.
I laughed and laughed and laughed, to which the Fed Ex person said "I guess this means you won't need our services?"
I then told Ronda my sad tale and how bummed I was, and she had Blue shipped to a different collection facility so that we could get the semen on the 3rd instead.
Funny story, awesome Stallion Owner, Happy baby!
Thanks all, for the thoughts on my mare. I'm hyper-critical unfortunately--it comes from seeing sometimes hundreds of TB's a week, so I'm even tough on my own horses when it comes to conformation. Yes, I'd love perfect, but I also would have wanted an exact replica of her when it came down to it--or lets face it, i'd be happy with a fuzzy mutant with pretzels for legs and crossed-eyes ;)
I'm so thrilled to bits--I got what I wanted from the mare, including her identical EARS! and the awesome attributes of the stallion :)

He is LOVELY! And she looks like she is being a super mom.
JFYI, you can ship counter to counter on an airline, even into DC, but have to be known shipper. You just have to apply, and they come out to check out the farm, to make sure it IS a valid farm. It takes a couple of months, until a representative is available to visit, but definitely worth doing for several airlines.

Awwww Fairweather - I love your boy! I'm so glad you got what you wanted. Your mare is gorgeous and definitely should be presented to the registry!
I had forgotten the FedEx drama......it's funny now but it was not so funny when we were scrambling to get semen shipped. Alls well that ends well (and less than $7000)!
Now that you've been bitten by the breeding bug, you'll have to pick Cassie's 2009 date
Grayfox - I'd love to try to help you out ;) although, for black with chrome, you don't need to look any further than your own barn!

OMG, he is so cute and the video of him trying to get down to eat grass made me laugh... I understand why some people breed... babies are so cute. I would be a nervous wreck as we get closer to delivery (Marestare is a good education) and I could never part with such a cutie.

Congratulations on your new handsome lad, Fairweather, so glad it all went well and that mum and baby are doing well.
Your mare is lovely, and I am sure would do well at the inspections.
I would also consider doing the ISR Oldenburg Inspection with her, as they have a wide range of outstanding approved stallions of different breeds.
good luck, and welcome ;)

I agree with everyone else--You NEED to present this mare.
I think she will score very well.
The Babe is absolutley adorable. I finally got a chance to see his videos last night and ended up with a room-full gathered around the computer to see what I was giggling at. :)
He sure does look like his Daddy.

Beautiful colt! He reminds me of his daddy!!!
I got lucky this year too - I custom ordered a black filly out of my chestnut trakehner mare and got her!! I ordered a chestnut colt with chrome out of the gray mare, ended up with the chestnut and chrome part anyway!

I kid around with my vet about ordering custom foals s too :)... but I usually wait around till the 14 day ultrasound to ask him if he sees what I want... He has been pretty close every time so far .
Handsome colt you have there... glad you got what you asked for :D.

Funny. I thought this thread was going to be about a MO who was shipped the wrong semen! Glad that's not the case ;-) Cute, cute foal.

Ohhh... thanks for sharing, and I mean that. I'm missing foaling, raising the two that I've got right now. If I were younger and had more dimes and dollars and energy. Thanks to all the lovely people here we can all enjoy it with them. And we know 'exactly' how you feel just gazing upon him. It's like you have to drink it up while you can. I even set my work schedule up for foaling so I could stay home as much as possible to watch every moment I could. Even them just sleeping, it all fills all of your senses.
That boy is going to give his mother some trouble . It looks like he's going to be full of a lot of personality. And the dog is a stitch and a hoot too. A fun cast of characters - isn't it such a blessing in life! sniff sniff, I want another one now too. Guess I'll have to go out and kiss that 16.2h (and not done growing) nose on my little baby. The one that I called 'junior' when he tried to be a lap puppy - now he's a giant junior.
