Finally did my first haul out to ride! :D Met up with SpotnnotFarm at 9:30. It was a picture perfect day: not a cloud in the sky, high 70's with a good breeze.
Mr. C'Mare came with me so he could spend a few hours quietly fishing....and for moral support for me!
Penny was quite excited. This was the first time riding out for both of us and she was wired for sound but well behaved. Should have worn my heavy-duty bra, though, cuz she jigged for about an hour heading out  Spot's boy, Grover (LOFF that name), is such a good boy! He was quite content to let P lead and if she went over/thru, he'd do it too ;)
We wound our way through the dense woods and up and down the hills. Half way through, we met up with my hubby fishing out of small pond and asked our horses to cross over a 4' wide concrete spillway coming off the pond. Welllll, that was met by a few controlled spins and much urging on my part to get P to go over. BUT she did it....albeit with a wee jump thrown in for good measure. Grover bravely followed suit and we headed off to the next section of woods to continue the ride.
Spot says "Uh, there's a pretty good water crossing here." But I said "Well, let's see how it goes." It went great! P stopped, as I knew she would, but didn't back or spin away. She just put a hoof in and considered the situation. I asked for forward and off she went, splashing her way to the other side. WOO HOO....GOOOOOOD MARE! There was much rejoicing and I'm sure I scared the fish.
A little ways down from there, we had to cross a small wooden bridge. That, too, needed some urging and circling before she bravely walked right across. And then "bridge shy" Grover followed right on P's butt. GOOD BOY!
The highlight, though, was the nice walk alongside the fast-running Chattahoochee River. It was awesome. Nice and cool with a great view.
We finally pop out of the woods and make our way back to our rigs, where I look and I look and I look. Ummmmm, "Christina, what's wrong with this picture?" I ask. I look at her, she looks at me and we both freak. MY TRUCK & TRAILER ARE GONE! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh. I grab my cell phone and start dialing Mr. C'Mare. Grrr, goes right to voice mail. (Well, tis hard to get a signal in the middle of da woods.) My heart is in my throat, my head is pounding and all I can think of is "Why would they steal MY rig?!?"
At last the call goes through and I haltingly ask "Uh, where are you?" He calmly replies "I'm coming back from the river; be there in a sec." "Ok," I say, "is the truck and trailer WITH you?!" "Of course."
:sigh:
He got tired of catching nothing so wanted to see the sights. Figured it was too much of a pain to unhitch the trailer, so just drove the whole thing down there. Was enjoying the scenary longer than he thought, so missed getting back to our parking site before us. AAAAHHHHHH. Good thing I loff him. I swallowed my heart again and proceeded to untack my very sweaty mare, who, despite that good work-out, was still fresh and ready to go. I had no idea she was as fit as she proved herself to be. Guess all those long walking/trotting rides I did at home paid off!
I washed her down a couple of times and we let the horses graze and dry as we chatted. We departed with a definite "gonna do this again lotsa times" deal and loaded up our respective horses for the ride home.
Alas, no pictures cuz dummy here forgot to put in fresh batteries. :( Oh well, next time!
