Found warmbloodsforsale.com yesterday, (and here i thought i'd found the end of the internet!)

I've been at the computer for 12 hours, and can't get away:no:. Somebody help me! Please!

In this economy, nobody is selling all those horses for 20 to 40K and up. Wonder what they're really selling for, if at all.

I was looking through the Sold section.

It was interesting to see the time span between the month the horse was listed and the month it sold.

Blue....Sounds like you need an "intervention" to treat this addiction.

The site is www.warmbloods-for-sale.com I think and some members here use it to pitch their horses...but it definitely is a flat/slow market. I have found a prospect thru it...but it takes a lot of patience and sorting and study to get to the bottom of what is really being advertised...and the prices are all over the place without much apparent rhyme or reason.

It's amazing all the WB's for sale out there! And you're right, the prices seem to be all over the place with no apparent ryhme or reason.

Have spent the past 15 years trying to breed what I want unsuccessfully, and now see some very nice young prospects reasonably priced, that maybe should go buy instead of breeding again.

But here I am planning another breeding!

Given the law of supply and demand, prices will eventually stabilize.

It is a confusing market now. Breeders don't know where to price their prospects and buyers are afraid to buy, thinking they might be paying too much.

I know two people who have been looking seriously for horses a kid could ride safely. One was shopping with around $10K and the other with under $4k, but there will always be a market for a kid-safe horse ... and at a wide range of prices, IMO.

I've been drooling over all those horses for years. I just want about 70% of them including the TB mares and the Cleveland Bays.

Completely different site that has been around for a while (5 or more years)

Limit yourself to an hour's viewing per day, and don't forget the TBs on there also.

It's totally different from the ewarmbloods site.

And if you want to see others , but not as good a site, go to the scothorse site too. I think it's horse-sales.com but not sure, so type in scothorse and it will take you there.

I have developed a method to the madness

Go to the advanced search every couple days and just search from the last time you were there.

That way you only have to view 3-4 pages.

Just called to make an offer on a horse I saw on warmbloods-for-sale but nobody answered!

After all my years of messing around with TB's arabians and 1/2 arabians, I'm gonna buy me a BIG, MAN-SIZED WARMBLOOD.:)

The only bad thing is about being able to finally afford my dream horse, is that now I'm an OLD fart.

He will be my only horse, and someday we'll reach FEI:D.

Congradulations. They are spoiled, they are arrogant and they are fun.
Just remember the rule (I didn't read it till too late): Don't let a WB know he is bigger than you are.

And OTTB mares are still the best.

Thank you all for the congrats! Will let you know who he is, just as soon as my deposit check gets cashed!

And yes, off the track TB mares are the best! Have a 23 yrs old OTTB mare myself, have had her for 18 years and raise 7 foals out of her.

Guess she's officially retired now, wanted to breed her one more time, but chickened out, just couldn't do it to her at her age, and she hates being pregnant really bad, although she never looked so good except when she was foal.

Will always regret that I never bred her to a warmblood.

My new WB colt has a TB grandma, and a fine looking grandma too, so that will have to suffice.

Welcome to the madhouse—and it only gets better and better.

Example: I read your post, walked outside my front door to the front pasture with a carrot offering...which I banged on the fence...and Mr. Duc came running (with his sidekick Dickens) for an evening treat.

And it all started here (http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=35292) for me ... 6 years ago!!!

So, Mr. or Ms. B. Domino. To quote that wonderful movie, Jurassic Park, "Hold on to your butts!!" (http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q="Hold+on+to+your+butts"+Jurassic+Park&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=0dshSsTYCpi4sgPjk5CaBA&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title#)...it's a wild ride!!!

Warmbloods-for-Sale is without a doubt my favorite sales website.
Unfortunately the "sold" section isn't as good of a resource as it could be, because I think some sellers play games with it. As an equine appraiser I like to keep an idea of what's for sale, what's selling, etc., plus there are certain breeds/ages/sports I have a particular interest in, and when you've been watching an ad that's maybe a foal that was $8K, then $7K, then $6K "must sell!", then marked sold with the price changed to $15K, it's a little bit suspicious!

Anyhow, congratulations OP on your new colt! :)

Prices on horses are subject to change with training.

And circumstances change. Someone willing to part with something for a low price may have sold something else, or got a new job, or married money, and life takes on a new glow.

Andras,
Try again.

The site is really user friendly. I love that you can update photos with no extra charge. Extremely important with young horses who change before your eyes.

Oakstable, no doubt the factors you mentioned can contribute to the change in a horse's price.

However, I know it's not the case in some of the ads I was alluding to, and I highly suspect it is not the case in some others. You'll just have to trust me (or not) since it's probably not appropriate for me to give specifics.

I really wasn't trying to argue with you :), I just wanted to give a little caution to people not to always take the information that you may find in the sold section at face value, because I *know* of situations where it was false, and I highly suspect other situations where it was false also.

I think it is next to impossible to find out what a horse sold for in a private sale.

Auctions in this country usually end up hugely disappointing as any guage on the market.

I wasn't looking at Sold for prices but RATHER how long it took.

Even then maybe the seller didn't get around to posting for months.

If the buying public starts thinking that a really nice horse should sell for bargain basement prices, the market will dry up.

I have to ride 4 horses and am one of those who answered the poll "How often do you NOT want to ride"... most often. I really only want 2 horses.

So, I've had my 2/3Level gelding on dreamhorse.com priced at 35K. then little by little went to 22K. But that low price indicates problems. So, raised it to 27K. Price doesn"t seem to be an issue, like people are saying they're all over the place.

Had one person come to try him, but didn't buy. He has had 1068 "hits" on his photo on dreamhorse.

I think many people are trying to declutter their lives, not add more things that are needy.

Ideas??

I have been told that people will assume negative things about a horse if the horse is priced below a certain range.

You might try "too many horses" in your headline to indicate you are negotiable.

Congrats to the OP on her purchase, but in my experience it's not the best website to sell. I advertised 3 horses last yr. on this subject website and on Dreamhorse. I sold 2 from Dreamhorse and only got one enquiry from WBFS.

Read your whole thread, wow what journey you had. You know the excitement!

What I really like about this buying a weanling is the fact that we don't have to worry about foal watch! What a relief that is, to escape foal watch.

How is your colt doing now? did you keep him a stud?

My plan is to keep him a stud until he seriously irks my civil sensibilites. A perfect gentlemen can keep em, ANY crap and off they go.

I've always assumed the "Sold" prices on that site were entirely fictional ;)

I do like that it shows you the length of time the horse was advertised though. Horses are not selling too well at the moment it seems.

I personally know that some of the horses still shown as actively for sale on that site have actually been sold, but the sellers keep the ad going long after. I am not sure why, perhaps it is because they have forgotten about it, having posted on multiple sites, or perhaps they want to have people continue to inquire without paying for a new ad about a different horse, i.e. "that horse is sold, but I have another...". The ads will run for 2 years before being deleted if not updated.

I found my love of a mare on WBFS. Come to find out, I knew the seller- and the horse was in Germany. She is my favorite/ I was lucky to have been surfing the site. I have sold one on WBFS, but the market is so slow, I have taken he off the market, but I haven't updated, so I need to do that. Congrats on your new colt, OP. Peg

wanted to give a little caution to people not to always take the information that you may find in the sold section at face value

The information is only as good as the people entering it, so reviewing sold horses is basically useless. It's a shame sellers are so dishonest, and maybe a bigger shame that we've learned to accept it as par for the course.

OP, now that we're all talking about it, won't it be funny if your seller changes the sold price to a higher one too!

Sellers should just delete their sold ads or at least delete the prices, what buyer wants the world to know what they paid anyhow?

We have purchased several horses that were advertised on warmbloods-for-sale.com, ranging in price from 6.5K for a yearling to 50K for a 5-year old. Based on my experience, if/when the ads were eventually marked as "sold" the ads never reflected the true "sold at" price.

Just something to keep in mind as you peruse the "sold ads".
