View Full Version : SO what's in your car/truck right now

vestito

Well after the recent eviction of a mouse that was living in my car, I got to thinking as I was cleaning it out. Do all people have this kind of crap in their cars?

besides the big fat mouse which I was hoping would leave on his own by me leaving car doors open at the barn.( Later I find out my son is leaving water bottle caps full of water and french fries under the seat.)

So right now what will you find in your car/truck?

a box of GS cookies, nibbled on by mouse

12 sweaters,coats or sweatshirts

6 pairs of shoes, sneakers or ,boots

the same amount of gloves

many McDonald happy meal toys

quite a few DD coffee cups....

wow I am such a slob

Oh forgot to mention my sons long lost cell phone.

Oh jeez, where should I even start?

Two winter coats. Winter tall boots. Two pairs of short muck boots. Four pairs of gloves.

An old cell phone box. A few sweatshirts. Lots of CDs and CD cases. Two purses.

A backpack full of miscellaneous tack. Several clean saddle pads. A tool kit. Two flashlights. Surprisingly very little trash--lots of other odds and ends.

Did I mention this is all in the cab of a Ford Ranger? AKA pickup truck for beginners that only really seats two adults and maybe (on a good day) a midget or two?

Also in the bed of the truck are two winter blankets that I'm planning on washing tonight. Along with hay remnants and pinecones.

OMG!
Okay, in the bed three bales of hay.
In the cab...saddle blanket (hasn't been used in at least three years), a rasp, a curry, a hoof pick, fly spray, gloves, rags, a halter, a few brushes, horse binder, pocket knife, flashlight, umbrella, sweatshirt, boots (human), sneakers...
That's all I can think of sitting here in my PJ's but if I went out to look I'm sure I would find many more items that don't really belong!

This is just the back of my SUV, which being a small one, doesn't have a very roomy "way back" area.
-My braiding kit bag.
-My braiding stepladder.
-A bag of paddock boots and half chaps that I didn't want taking up space in the barn tack room, yet didn't feel like taking out to the trailer.
-the boots I wear for shows. Same deal.
-Bungee cords
-An old cell phone and charger cord that I keep meaning to donate to one of those battered women's shelters.
-A tire inflater pump. Nifty thing, it plugs into the lighter outlet. Fortunately, I've only ever used it to inflate exercise balls.
-A tote bag with long underwear, which I won't need for a while.
-gym bag with other random stuff, none of which is usful or needed.

And underneath it all, one of those backseat organizer things, the kind made out of black fabric that expands to hold multiple sacks of groceries, or whatever you might want to organize. My in-laws gave it to me for x-mas a few years ago. I would have just preferred a large open bin.

Well, lets see (taking mental inventory here). In the map pouch on the driver side door is about 6 months worth of feed store receipts, gas station receipts, and drive through napkins (because you never know when you might spill something).

Then there are the CD's in the holder on the visor. Followed up by assorted junk in the armrest storage thing (owners manual, old registration papers, the receipt for the new battery I had to by yesterday, and an old phone charger (I guess I can toss that out).

More trash in the passenger side map slot (my daughter uses it for a trash container). One wrapped peppermint in the cup holder.

In the storage behind the seats, some maps, old printouts of google map directions, a pair of gloves, and a container of handi-wipes. In the other, about 10 CD cases.

Under the back seat? I have a duffle bag with a blanket, bungee cords, a container of motor oil, and jumper cables. Under the other seat is a broken umbrella, and a bag of assorted crap that used to be scattered about the truck, I put it all in the bag years ago when the truck had to go into the shop, and I have no idea what is in it!

And a coating of dog hair on everything of course.

Hmm. three clean saddle pads, a wool dress cooler, a rain sheet, a backpack with misc stuff, a bunch of cloth grocery bags, a first aid kit, directions to the last show I did, an old Flying Changes magazine, and a lot of barn dirt!

Hmmm...a tow chain
tie downs
a jack, spare tire
small cage (for injured roadside animals, I've found picking them up without a cage means I have to drive with them attacking me...which is kinda hard to do)
Leather gloves
an extra halter/lead with a small bucket with lid that has a handful of hay pellets in it (for the not uncommon loose horse I may pass or that may pass me)
A Dean Martin cd
A Toby Keith cd
A Queen cd

Otherwise no junk...this stuff I keep in the truck all the time. The cd collection changes from time to time though.

BUT...I have no idea what's in my center console container-thingy...could be anything since I use that to stuff whatever into.

Several maps
Canvas and leather gloves
A couple of leashes in case I find a lost/loose dog(s)
Halters and leads (loose horse/livestock)
A small can of grain
Oil
Power steering fluid
First Aid kit
A blanket
A fix a flat kit
Some CDs -Johnny Cash, Abba, Gilbert and Sullivan, African Tribal music - and a series of lectures on physics.

I just cleaned out the mobile tackroom, so all that is left is a bag with my horse gear (jods and boots and boot socks) and my helmet and my gloves. In the glove box are all my repair receipts for the car, in the change pocket is change, in the ashtray is either money or gas receipts, there's paper towels in the side pockets, under the seat is a first aid kit and a big flashlight and an empty peanut butter jar(?) and a can opener and a package of fruit cups. Hanging on the back of the seat is a trash bag with kleenex and a water bottle. In the center console, well, umm, I don't know. In the trunk is a set of cobra chains, a scraper/broom and a lot of trash bags lining the floor. All the stuff that used to be in there, the bags of Mrs Pastures and the mints and three different sizes of girths, boot pulls, saddle blankets, grooming tote, saddle, bridle(s), all sitting gathering dust in my laundry room:sigh:. One day, one day . . . .

I just had a hissy fit this morning about all the crap that is still in my truck after Saturday's show. We have:

-one pair of field boots
-one pair of boot trees (not in boots)
-one lined bag for above field boots (which boots are not in)
-two pairs of paddock boots
-one pair sneakers
-two garment bags
-one pair Crocs
-several pairs of dirty boot socks
-trailer hitch lock
-dirty breeches
-sponsor books and prize lists for the past three shows
-exploded show folder with paperwork (Coggins, measurement cards, membership cards, etc) now spread all over my dashboard
-assorted ribbons
-broken leather halter that I keep forgetting to get repaired by the leather guy at shows
-large array of garbage including (but not limited to): soda cans, water bottles, half eaten hot dog from Saturday (how the dog didn't find that I do not know), dust/dirt that accumulates when an entire pack of Oreo's is ground beneath the feet of a lazy twleve year old
-flea/tick spot on and collars I bought two weeks ago

I used to blame it on having two kids and a dog traveling to shows in a small crew cab but in my heart I know that if I got the king cab truck I want, it would still be filled with crap. It's official, we are pigs.

I bought a new vehicle in December.

The day I was to pick it up and trade my other car in, the dealership offered to follow me home with the new vehicle and just swap keys and take my old one back with them "real quick." I stammered and had to explain that it was going to take a few more minutes and not be "real quick" because I had oodles of barn stuff in the car.

I made a vow to myself and Ella da Kia (the new car) that I would NOT turn her into a veritable tack room. That was in December.

Since December, Ella da Kia has been deflowered of her non-barn-car status and now has pokey bits of hay peppering the interior, a pair of tall boots, my hoof jack and rasps, and of course...a cooler...not to mention assorted dog toys and a dog bed after our vacation this weekend. Sigh. I didn't even make it 30 days before I broke her in.

Still, I'm doing much better than I had in years past.

-2 pairs of tall boots

-blanket
-quarter sheet
-various sweatshirts
-rain jacket
-boot rubbers
-boot socks
-my show backpack
-crops
-gloves
-hairnets
-numbers and number strings
-grocery bag with various items

Ha. Haha. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Well, I bought a toolbox JUST to carry my miscellaneous horse gear.

In the cab I have: a full CD holder with CDs that I haven't listened to since I hooked up my mp3 player to my truck (over a year ago), assorted syringes under my front seat (new, fell out of the bag that I got from the vet), lots of jewelry in the center console from driving straight from work to the barn, tampons, spare razor for those spots I missed when going to the beach, lots of bank/feed store receipts, business card holder, checkbook, owners manual for my new stereo (new as in 4 years ago), lots of straw wrappers, 2 old cellphones, 4 old cell phone chargers, lots of old keys to houses/vehicles/gates I don't own anymore, a few things of hand/face lotion, some pens that don't work, heels from work, usually a few sets of barn or work clothes from having to commute from one to the other, spare napkins in the glove compartment, maps that I never use, lots of mcd's bags (I'm addicted to egg mcmuffins minus the cheese and iced coffee!), a jacket (in case I get cold in June!), 3 or 4 hats for lessons in the sun or when I'm too lazy to put on a helmet, a bunch of old magazines, 3 purses (my daily one and 2 clutches for going out), my makeup bag (because I'm always late and doing my makeup in the car), a spare t shirt, more tampons, a cheesy emergency roadside kit my mom got me, that I actually USE!!, and I'm sure a spare GI Joe or two from my BF's son.

In the toolbox: a pair of ariat clogs, my old paddock boots, my old tennis shoes, a longe line, 2 spare halters, a few dressage whips, a spare saddle pad, my old half chaps, my old helmet, gloves, spare bridle parts, a bag of ribbons (SOMEONE give me an idea of what to do with them all!!!), a few feed scoops, remnants of a bag of treats, all covered in a layer of horse hair. :)

In the bed: a pair of crocs, my wellies, a pair of flip flops, boot rubbers, leftover hay, and a tarp.

I need to clean.

Wow - I'm thinking about printing this thread just to show a work colleague that I'm really NOT that bad. lol In my car: various cds, a tub with an extra quart of oil, a candle, flares, jumper cables, a rain poncho, an extra lead rope, and some baling twine; a comforter (for my dog to sit on when he's invited into the car), three fabric bags for groceries, a pair of birkenstocks (in case I need them...for what, I have no idea), a few receipts and a water bottle, various maps, a pad of paper and pen, floss.

In my truck: an extra quart of oil, jack, a tripod (for my video camera for lessons), my hay rope (can be used for other things as needed), a big wrench (for opening my tailgate), an extra pair of riding gloves, a water bottle, and a few things I can't remember. It's got less stuff, but it's just a regular cab, so there's less room for stuff.

Colleague has nothing in his trunk and just some cds in the front. Very boring!

OMG...I probably should just answer with

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

But here it goes...I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Front passenger seat...set up for Dog #1's bed...the entire floor board is stuffed with pillows and there is a blanket in the seat...so she can stretch out and sleep

Back seat...comforters and pillows for dogs # 2, 3..to stretch out and sleep.

The very back...Oh dear lord, I'll try

1 Ariat Rain Jacket
2. 2 Pairs of boots..one paddock, one hiking/waterproof
3. A feed tub
4. 3 leashes
5. a Mountain horse waterproof jacket
6. A box full of odds and ends
7. 2 bottles of fly spray
8. Oil..because my husband needs to change the oil in the car this weekend
9. Windshield wiper fluid..which probably needs to actually go in the container and not sit in my jeep
10. Another comforter

And I am sure I have left many things out....I call my car, the moving dog bed...good thing that it's just me and my husband and we drive seperate vehicles.

Oh and I left out..a gazillion CDs and bank receipts

My muck boots
My medieval mounted crest combat helmet
A dozen sweatshirts or jackets
A bucket full of horse wash supplies
A box of something I apparently don't need because I don't even know what's in it
A box of cassette tapes that were my grandfather's (mostly Anne Murray)
A pillow
A blanket
My bridle I need to oil
A saddle pad I need to wash

I own the truck that we call "the garbage truck" I started doing some cleaning yesterday an hope to finish today.

I did pull out a bag that had been in there since Christmas when I visited my family. It had a bunch of Christmas cards in it and it is a good thing I checked them before throwing them away. I found a $100 bill, a Home Depot gift card and a Target gift card.

I know that there is oodles of old junkmail, I pick up the mail at the road, drive to the house and take out the important stuff back into the house with me, the other stuff accumulates. There are probably a few empty soda cans, empty fast food bags, an 8 pound bag of flax seed that broke open. Lots and lots of stuff from the last couple of shows I brought students to: a jacket, a clamp light, whips, schooling saddle pad, a pair of stirrups, golf umbrella, longeline, many freebie magazines that I picked up at the shows ....

Basically my little Ford Ranger XLT with jump seats in the back only seats one right now...

Dang, why can'tI find stuff like that when I do clean my truck? Oh heck, if I did, it would be my luck that the gift cards would be expired. I do that all the time with the CVS Extra Bucks, I stuff them in my purse, and then forget that I have them, and then when I do remember to look they are expired of course.

This thread is a hoot. And goes to show that many busy horse people don't have time for pristine vehicles.

So apparently I am the OCD neat freak of the board....that's ok I'm used to it. In my F-350 crew cab (my only wheels), I have nothing in either front door panel, in the center console is my CD case, my Fastrac transponder for the bridges, and my mileage log for hauling. In the glovebox is napkins, extra plastic utensils in those baggies you get from fast food places, registration, and a pocket with all my insurance info, and my owners manual. There is a flashlight on my front floorboard but nothing else. In the back the seat is a blanket (for the pooch), my clothes for tonight after work, and a jacket for my friend. Behind the seat is all the normal jack and tools that came with the truck, and a roll of shop towels, and my maps are under the seat. Nothing in the bed at all. I am a freak I know! My desk at work is clean, my tack and tackbox is neat and organized, my trailer is organized, and even my house is cleanish (we are doing some upgrades so a few things are moved while working, and its freaking me out). Starting to think perhaps I need medication......I have this thing about garbage and paper....I don't know.

:eek::eek::eek: Oh boy, my poor little Tiburon............:o

Trunk:

Gear bag full of hoof trimming equipment
Hoof stand
Plastic file box with client files and paperwork
Plastic file box full of various articles and supplies people might want/need
3 or 4 sets of Hoof Boots, Pads, accessories, etc.

Back Seat/floorboards:

Clipboard with forms
2 pair of shoes
1 pair of barn boots
2 or 3 extra sets of clothes and gloves

Passenger Seat/Floorboard:

1 set of Hoof Boots
3 or 4 hoof picks
Andre's registration certificate
State map and a gazeteer
Various bags of dog, cat, bird, or horse feed on any given day
The ocassional dog that gets in and won't get out till it goes for a ride

In the console dealie:

CDs
gum
candy
chocolate
change
sunglasses
airfreshener from 2005 (probably need a new one)

And there's a little room in the driver's seat for me but I have to share the space with my purse and my appointment book.

In all fairness, I commute 2 hours a day, plus I trim horses in the evenings so I live in my car most of the time.

OK, I have a SMART car whose one disadvantage is not too much room for junk. Still, I have:
-air compressor for flat tires
-first aid kit
-owners manuals/insurance
-several horse magazines
-laptop and charger
-raincoat and umbrella. I ahve no diea why I need both.
-several rags
-can of gum
-sunglasses
-leather gloves
-pen, pad and spare change
-garbage bags, binder twine and a machete for disposing of undesireables
-spare lead and halter for if I ever see a stray horse on the road. What I would do with said stray horse in a smart car, I have no idea, but there it is.
-half the sand from my riding ring...

I really need one of those little vaccuums that plugs into the cigarette lighter

:lol::lol::lol:

mjrtango93, I'm a neat freak too, so you're not alone. I think the only thing out in my vehicle is the box of kleenex that's usually on the passenger seat & some coupons in a dashboard slot because they're ones that expire in a week and I don't keep them in my coupon box (filed by category of course! :D) because they're for places like Ulta or Michaels. Everything else is vehicle purposed like a flashlight, mileage log book, sunglasses (in center console), air compressor under the seat, etc. Oh, and some duct tape along with some WD-40 and other repairy-type stuff in a concealed slot for repairs.

A bag of shavings for the trailer (bought 2 weeks ago)
a laundered blanket that I'm getting rid of (picked up from laundromat 3 weeks ago)
Two saddles
Riding gear (horses are at two different barns)
About 6 leashes (none left IN the house)
Plenty of dirt to level a stall
Case of water bottles (but I only use my Nalgene?)
A meter stick (You never know when you might walk a course !?!)
McDonalds garbage from LAST weekend
Basket of dirty dry cleaning (been there for 3 weeks)

Yeah...I'm bad. I always say I have the biggest car with the least amount of room.
