My little sister's friend is looking for a barn in the Hunterdon County area of New Jersey and is looking for suggestions. She has her own horse and wants to do local showing, nothing too serious, and take lessons. I suggested a few places that I knew of, but am looking for more for her. Her biggest limitation is price - she wants to keep it around 700 or less and I don't know many that are that cheap. Ideas?

If she is willing to travel, there are plenty of barns south of Hunterdon for less.

Or a bit north as well for less.... if she is willing I know tons up in sussex co (average board around $650 for high end farms with indoors, trainers, grass turn outs, all the bells and whistles) and would be willing to show her round some farms....

Monmouth and Ocean Counties are by far one of the most populated horse counties and board can be extremely affordable. Let me know how far she's willing to travel...I pay around $450 board for full care.

Avoid central jersey (somerset and some of essex county). This is where I am, and while i love the area, the prices are absolutely insane! you can find the same exact things down south around the shore (think monmouth county) for half the cost. So if you're willing to travel, look around the shore areas.

Most of the facilities that I know of in Monmouth County are $700 and up for full board. Those that are cheaper generally do not have an indoor or are more like backyard situations. I would love to pay $450 full care...where is it? PM if you prefer.

I just moved to sussex county. Are there high end show barns in this area? My boy is a very hard keeper with some medical issues. Anywhere that can handle him?? Also it needs to be affordable.

If she's set on Hunterdon County, look in the Horse-News and on the bulletin boards at Bevals and Horseman's Outlet. Also, not sure of the prices, but look up and check out Clearview Farms in Ringoes (friends of a lady I used to board with... never road with them, but they seemed really nice and like they had a good program when I met them). Not sure of the prices, but $700 for basic board in a place where you can also get lessons and some local showing doesn't seem outlandish.

Lots of nice barns in Sussex County... what kinds of services and/or training are you interested, and in what budget? There are a bunch of places that do "A" showing... On Course in Lafayette comes to mind (beautiful facilities, great care, lots of showing opportunities) but there are many others as well (Julie Becker/Little Pine Farm in Branchville, Liberty Hill in Wantage, etc.)

Right now he gets 1 training ride a week and i get 2 lessons a week, we go to local rated shows. I am looking for the same but maybe a place that has a trail system or does hunter paces also. He is at a place that has top quality care, with feed and turn out monitored to make sure everyone is doing well. He goes out all day through the winter and all night in the summer. I pay around a grand a month for all these services so I would like to stay with in that price range. Care is very important to me. Oh I ride in the hunters. He just came back after having both EPM and very bad case of lyme.( he will most likly be on doxy for most of the rest of his life.) Thanks

My friend pays $550 for full care in Monmouth Cty - huge indoor, outdoor, grass turn-out, matted 12x12' stalls, heated wash stall, tack lockers, and good care.
