Ok so I got to the barn at 6:15am gave beautiful her oats and wraped her legs and we were off at 6:45am!

We got to the fairgounds at 7am and I went to find my trainer and got beautiful off of the trailer and took her to her stall and upwraped her and took her sheet off and there was a stain sooo we launged beautiful then tacked her up and rode her by that time my mom was signing me up for classes.....

I got off beautiful untacked her while trainer got the stain out and painted her hoofs black. By that time is was 8:15am and so I got ready and took beautiful outside and mom put makeup on me and I was ready!

I went in Halter and didnt place but ohh well. Trainer was gone after halter class and we didnt see her for like 3 hrs later...... Sooooo my friend helped me get ready for my showmanship class and I got 5th out of 7. I was proud becuz not once have I ever praticed at home.

My friend and I afer showmanship both tacked up and we rode to the make up ring and rode there and sas trainer on a saddlebred schooling it. I warmed up and ask trainer if she was going to watch my classes and she said yes.

My w/t EQ class was coming up so I rode to the other ring and waited. I went in my Ew class and looked for trainer and she hads her back turned the entire time helping someone else same thing happened in my w/t HUS class

My Eq I didnt place but my HUS class I got 4th out of 9. Now I pay my trainer good $$$$$ and she should haave been with me atleast some of the time helping me with my riding classes but ohh well I found I can do it on my own :)

After my classes I hung out with my friend for a bit then at %:15pm I fed beautiful and now im home!

I met beautiful's breeders also today :D

Tiffany, you and Beautiful look great. Is this your first show? If it is, you did wonderfully by yourself. You are learning and it helps to get out there, do your best and get that first show out of the way.

Love those jammies that you got for Beautiful too!

You have worked so hard to bring this horse along, kuddos and thumbs up for your success, the harder you work at it, the easier the next show will be.

Were there other students there at the show as well? A lot of times at shows, if there are other students, the trainer is bouncing around to each one and can't spend that much time with each student.

I can tell you that when I taught students it was very difficult for me to coach multiple kids. The ones that I knew that could be ok without my constant supervision did good. I usually got cauht up with the under 6 years olds that needed me. My teenagers could handle it.

Did your parents pay her to coach you at the show?

Just some helpful hints...when your riding in the W/T class, have someone with you, your mom or a friend wipe your boots off just before heading into the class. It looks better to have a polished look about you.

Also, when you show halter, try going in with nice khaki jeans, I wear my lace up ropers, a nice polo shirt or button down, and get your horse to be alert, her ears forward. She is lovely grooming wise, very nicely done...Stand with your horse but make sure that you never impede the judges view of the horse, maybe have a friend show you how to better handle her so you show her to her best advantage. And, put a bit more weight on your mare and she will surely shine even better.

Good luck.

Ok I txt my trainer since my mom and I were runing late and she fed beautiful for me and we got there around 7:30am and I hung out w/my traier and the "crew" for a bit then I went off and got beautiful ready for halter class.

I didnt place in hatler class.

same thing for showmanship didnt place.

So I tacked up beautiful and rode her in the make up ring and my trainer helped me out then we left to go down to wait for my class.

w/t Eq class-got 3rd out of 11 people!!!

w/t HUS class-got 4th out of 11 people!!

All western except for 1 other person.

My mom and grandma were soooo thrilled!!

Then I untacked her pulled out her bands and hung out till 4:00pm then came home!!

Her breeder's came up tp me and my mom and said that they were really happy that I have her now. Her old name was crowdog and her show name was daugther of crowdog. Her dad was named crowdog.

I think you did quite well for the most part, on your own. As long as you are happy with your horses' behavior, and how you rode, you're a winner....

Some more hints for you-In Halter, I will second Belposh's advice.

For Showmanship, since you are (very nicely!) attired in English wear, your horse should also be shown in her bridle-NOT a halter. In some of your pictures, you are not standing very alertly, or with good posture and squared shoulders. In doing showmanship, during the ENTIRE class-even when the judge does not appear to be judging you-many times, they are!! Be "at attention" for the entire time-yes, it is hard!! Always keep an eye on your horse, AND an eye on the judge. I think if you do-and practice-these few things, you two will move up several placings next time. My daughter was a champion in Showmanship many times with her QH, it is quite different than a halter class.

Your horse looks very relaxed, and beautifully turned out, and it looks like you had a beautiful day to show. Hope it went well today;)

You may not have placed well in some of the under saddle classes because of the bit you were using. It's usually dependent on the judge but most judges like to see a horse in a simple D ring, full cheek or sometimes a pelham. Obviously if that bit works well for your horse you don't have to change it just to show, but that may have been the reason this judge didn't pin you as high as you would have liked.

Great job, your horse sure did shine (can't even tell there was a stain!)

Your stirrups are not even....
The left one appears to be at least 6" longer than the right.

And if your stirrups are even, then your saddle is very very crooked.

You and your horse look great, congratulations on doing so well in the show :) I would suggest maybe talking to your trainer and explaining that you felt as if she was not giving you the help you needed at the show, and ask whether that is the amount of attention you can expect in the future. I am not sure how old you are, maybe it would be best to have your parents talk to her, especially if they are the ones who are paying her! If things don't get resolved you should try to find someone else who is able to give you more individualized attention at the shows.

I agree with the previous posts that you should try to use some sort of snaffle bit (I like D rings) for the HUS if your horse will go ok in it. It will make for a much more finished picture. I can't comment on what you should do in the other classes because I have only shown in the hunters :)

Wait? The kimberwicke has been deposed as King of the Breed Shows? Wow, I've been away for a while. Last time I paid attention to that venue a pelham would get you more judging frowns than a kimberwick!

Agreed. That's been my experience as well.

Most HUS horses at breed shows are going in D-Ring snaffles- but many with hooks and curb chains.

Great job at your show Tiffany- Beautiful looks great.

2LaZ2race
May. 25, 2009, 11:55 PM
It's usually a safe bet that the simpler the bit the better. I would say a horse that goes around in a simple D would be more desirable than a horse that needs a bit with leverage or a curb chain. Trends come a go, especially with breed shows.

At the same time it's always best for a novice rider to ride the horse in a bit that will give them a safe and confident trip.

Also in the halter class (not showmanship as much) try to keep your mare's head up and ears up. She looks like she is falling asleep.

My english 4H kids all show in a halter in the showmanship- and do well! At the bigger shows they change into the bridle for the conformation classes (halter, model, whatever you want to call it).

In the trotting video, my old instructor from when I was a kid was at the rail watching - that was fun to see. This video was taken in my hometown (I no longer live there).

Tiff, you did a great job with Beautiful.

I think if you paid your trainer, yes, she should have actually been coaching you. At my most recent show with my trainer, she had myself and two other students there, as well as a horse of her own to show, but she was still able to give us each the attention we needed. I understand as that number goes up, the time she will have will decrease. If your trainer had you and only one other student, she should have given you the same amount of attention.

The good news is, you obviously didn't need her - kudos to handling the day well on your own.

Yes Tiff, my old trainer is Lee. I rode with her for years as a kid. Seems like forever ago. Oh yah, it was!

You look great!!! You have come so far!!

My only suggestion is to get a hairnet, it will keep your flyaways tucked in nicely.

Beautiful is beautiful and you have improved so much, congrats!!

I think my hair is too short for a hairnet but I can always try it.

I have very short hair and use a hairnet. I use two actually and lots of bobby pins  It definitely can be done. On the hunter/jumper form there was just a thread about doing "hunter hair" with short hair. I know hunter hair isn't quite what you need but perhaps it can give you someplace to start :)

Tiffany, we merged a few of your threads about your show into one, so that it's easier to follow and all the information and pictures stay together.

You can edit the title of your thread to let folks know there's new stuff in here by clicking on "edit" from the lower right corner of the thread's first post. Then click on "go advanced." From there, you can change the title to if you want when you add something new instead of starting a whole new thread.

Congratulations on your nice placings!

Having short hair shouldn't stop you from wearing a hairnet. It looks more polished with the fly away's contained.

Also do check the stirrup length it was WAY off...

I got to the barn loaded the pony, got to the show let her eat then my mom went to sign me up foclasses and then my trainer helped me out by going over my showmanship pattern.

I wasnt going to do halter but did anyway.

Halter didnt place.
showmanship messed up the pattern-didnt place (people left and right were messing up)

Then I warmed up and had my Eq class and didnt place.
Then I had my HUS class out off 11 and I placed 5th in it :)!!!!!!

I went to my friends house at 1:00pm then came home at 3PM and now I have to go back up and feed.

My camera died before my EQ class so no pics of me.

My show tomorrow (well, today, actually...) got cancelled due to rain. It POURED last weekend, and the show's at the same place, and it's still so torn up from last weekend that they just cancelled. Honestly though, Im' glad. My horse was great in the rain, but I was definitely NOT happy!

Better luck though! It's been raining nonstop here in Mass...
