Some of the list stays in my show trunk at home while not at shows, and some of the stuff has to be packed when we leave. Either way its a really long list. I'm paranoid I'll leave something home that I might possibly need so my method is just to bring everything with me. I'm just not sure how I manage to fit everything in my tiny trunk.

With everything else already listed I also carry an extra set of shoes in my trunk. I started doing this after I lost a shoe 'somewhere' on the show grounds and of course it was lost never to be seen again and it ran me 75$ for one shoe to be put on by the show blacksmith (one of his shoes)... that was almost 20 yrs ago so I imagine it is more now...

Haha, when I started reading this I though you were talking about one of your shoes and I was like "you could have bought a whole new pair for $75, why did you take one of the blacksmith's?" and then I realized you were talking about horse shoes ...
Brain dead moment!

I thought the same thing as you cantercutie, until I got to the part about the farrier.
What a great idea though to carry a spare set. I know that sometimes my farrier will put on a new set and indicate that there is still some wear left, but not enough to make it to next reset. I could keep a set of those around for a spare set at shows.

My eventing coach did this for her mid to upper level horses... saves time and money, not to mention you get a shoe that's actually fitted to your horse by your farrier (not that the show farriers are necessarily bad... but one would assume you use your own farrier because you like his work!) Just be sure to label which shoe goes to which hoof...

Wow some of these lists are really something. They're everything I have in my trailer, I can't imagine packing all that in a trunk that normal humans could actually move.
I put stuff in my trunk that i need at my stall. I haul my own horses so bigger stuff I leave in my trailer. Of course if other folks that I am with need my whip or whatever that's fine, they can get it or if we get a tack stall we can put it in there.
In my trunk, I have a bath bucket with smaller sizes of all the bath products that I use, and a small container of liniment. I also have a small bucket with tack cleaning stuff, a couple of brown paper bags at the bottom for poultice, one of those rubber stalll guard things (the long skinny kind) for hanging saddle pads on, my brushes, flyspray, hand santizer gel and a container of wipes, horse boots, a ziploc with boot polishing stuff, my horses buckets, my bridle, martingale and girth, hair nets, gloves. My trunk is packed like a puzzle, once we get there and I get the horses buckets out there's more room for the other stuff. I like my trunk etc to be a self contained unit so I don't have to make 8000 trips back and forth to the trailer carrying stuff.
I bring a clean saddle pad for each day if it's a weekend show, if it's longer I bring a ziploc bag with laundry detergent and another with dryer sheets and a small container of bleach.

I can't stress enough how nice it is to have a spare set of shoes, but it's even MORE important when your horse is shod with something unusual or difficult.
My hunter gelding had padded bar shoes up front and I always had a spare set of front shoes with me in my trunk. My jumper mare was drilled and tapped all the way around, and that was something I didn't want to have to deal with in the middle of a show, so I always traveled with a reset set of shoes front and back.

One other thing -- We put together a horse show binder.
We used those sleeves with pockets that people use for collecting baseball cards and put membership cards as well as a copy of our medical insurance card in there.
I also have a print out of the relevant rules in case there is a question to spare us from going into the office and looking dumb as well as a copy of horse and rider's show record in case there is an issue regarding eligibility.
For each show I also put a copy of the prize list in the binder and if I am feeling really organized, a list of ATMS and restaurants in the area.

When I was riding with Jane Gaston in Middleburg (she rode Claim to Fame when he was staying that summer at Salamander Farm when Bill Moroney was there.I loved geting to ride with him too)..........she once referred to my tack trunk as "Pandoras Box"..........but whatever it was she needed........I had!!! <smile>...grant it may not have been immaculately packed as we'd liked, haha!!

Mine's pretty basic.
Clean rags for anything and everything
Braiding bucket with all of the supplies
Scissors
Boot pulls
Wash bucket
Liniment
Fly spray
Vetroline Shine
Helmet
Talls
Hairnets
Gloves
Grooming kit with everything needed
Basic first aid kit
Polos and boots for schooling
Fuzzy EQ boots
Treats
Tack cleaning stuff & sponges
And I think that's it! I keep my saddle and bridle and that stuff in our barn's tack stall.

I like to think I have one of everything in my trunk (20+ years of accumulation later).
But last year at this time that included a mouse  (discovered, of course, at a show)
This year I'm hoping for one of everything EXCEPT FOR the mouse :D

Bridle(s), martingales
Eq boots and lunging boots, lunge line
Bats and collection of spurs
Pad, baby pad, girth
Clothes brush
Basic brushes and grooming/bathing supplies
Poultice, spatula, paper for poulticing
Pill crusher
At least one bucket
Alu-Shield for heel grabs, gnat cream, brown gauze, vet rap ...
Sewing kit
Permanent and white board markers
Duct tape (usually borrowed by grooms)
Rags and Towels
At least one large garbage bag (for packing up stuff at end, emergency rain gear ...)
Boot rubbers
Paper towels
Mane comb and scissors
Extra stud chain (also usually borrowed by grooms)
Extra set of standing wraps for a longer show
Field boot laces (not sure why since my boots have those stretchy non-laces)
Pliers, screw driver, bottle opener, corkscrew (no, not a bit:D), hole punch
Seam ripper
Flashlight (and plan to add head lamp)
Pens and Pencils
Contact lens solution and case, tampons, analgesics, bandaids
Envelope with Star's and my basic information - phone numbers, show organization numbers, insurance info
Half chaps
Scrim and/or dress sheet; day sheet.
There must be more. Saddle goes with me. Show clothes go with me. SmartPaks get packed by barn.
My trunk is very heavy. People tend not to complain after they've borrowed a few things from me. The barn joke is that people don't ask "Peggy do you have" but "Peggy may I borrow" b/c they assume I have whatever it is.
