I'm looking at buying a 2+1 (3 horse) GN trailer with a DR, Rear & side ramps.
I know I need 7'6" high, and 7'6" breast to butt bar, and 3'6" head space.
I love the thought of being able to make 2 box stalls for a horse show, so I don't to buy stalls. Does anyone have any experience with these trailers. Any feedbaack or reccomendations for Brands, features/options to get or not get would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all your input, but let me clarify....I like the idea of the 2 box stalls for shows so I could keep one in a box stall while I rode the other. We live close enough to the show grounds that we bring the horses home at night & turn them out. No, I'd never leave them in there all day or overnight. If we traveled to a show, I'd certainly buy stalls.
I would love input from thoses who have this type of trailer as to the feasiblity of this.

I love mine. I have the Kieffer 2+1 extra tall and wide...My 16 hand, 1200# horses look like tiny ponies in there.... Their first trip in it was 900 miles and they did great!

I have a Silver Star and I love it. I shipped two 16.2 Warmbloods and a 15.2 TB and they fit perfectly. Mine is a 2005 model, and I have not had a single problem with it yet.

I got a 4Star and LOVE it!!
One piece of advice.... if you are buying new.... order it and get exactly what you want!!!! It may be a little bit more, but you will be happier for longer!!!!

Not to hijack, but any thoughts on the best deals for this kind of trailer? Equispirit looks lovely but seems very pricey.

My Silver Star was under $20,000. It also has a large dressing room w/saddle and bridle racks.

I bought a C&C 2+1 GN two years ago and LOOOOOOVE it. I was originally looking at 4Stars, (which are excellent trailers) and while doing my research, learned that C&C is owned by the folks who founded 4Star. Went to see the trailers in person at a local dealer... and liked the C&C even better, so that is what I bought.
Mine has a flexible floorplan, so I can have 2 straight stalls (with rear ramp) in the back and a box stall up front (with the side ramp access) or I can have 2 box stalls, each again with their own ramp. I use it most often with a box stall in back for my (big) horse, using the front one for grooming/tacking up if the weather is not so nice out. That front section is also awesome for packing big stuff - like trunks, scooters etc - if we are going to be away for a longer trip and need to bring more supplies with us to set up tent stalls. The side ramp makes loading all of that stuff a piece of cake.
My trailer also has a good sized dressing room and plenty of room up in the peak for storage. I like that I can put the "messier" stuff (like wheelbarrows, extra hay bales and so forth) in the "+1" area rather than in the DR, so the DR stays neat, clean and organized.
I can't say enough good things about C&C from a manufacturing quality standpoint, either. The fit and finish is terrific, and the little extras, like head bumpers on all the doorways, the positive locking latches on the butt and chest bars, etc really make it a pleasure to own and use. My trainer calls it "the RitzCarlton Condo."

C&C is now out of business. :(
Turnbow also has a trailer that might work. They call it their Mare and Foal design, and it converts into two box stalls. Mine That Bird rides in a Turnbow 4 horse that converts into box stalls.
For some reason, all the 2+1 trailers are very expensive. You'd think they wouldn't cost much more than a 4 horse, but they do.

You're not kidding! We've been looking for one of these used for about 6 mos because they're too expensive new, and they're SO hard to come by. Even just a regular 2 horse with front and side ramp.
Friends of ours have the 4-Star 2+1 with a dressing room and it's a gorgeous trailer. Very long, though!

Featherlite while I am not sure about the 2 + 1 definately makes a 2 horse straight with the full front ramp walk through mode. My friend has one! But most lots don't carry them, they have to be ordered.

Hawk! I have one and love it. Much more cost effective than some others and I've been very happy with the quality.

Bought mine new last year for under 20K. I thought I got a good deal and it seems like it from what I am seeing. Mine works like the other one described above, I can have two large straight load stalls with the box stall+ ramp up front, or convert to two box stalls. Dressing room is good size as well.

make 2 box stalls for a horse show, so I don't to buy stallsYou mean you'd keep them in the trailer/stalls the whole time, even overnight? Wow, I'd check with the show grounds where you normally compete to see if they allow this, and would also think long and hard about a horse staying in a smaller-than 8x8 stall for a whole weekend. During the day, yeah, I'd do it but all night, in a trailer? Not I.
That being said, I really want one of these trailers and had planned on buying one this spring before the economy tanked. :sigh:
The Kiefers and Equispirits seem really nice.

Everytime I see a thread on this, makes me want one! We went from having 2 horses, to 3 (one being a 17.3 hd draft) and just added a small pony to make 4!!
I love love love my Turnbow, but just need something a scooch bigger (it's 7'6" inside height with ExtraWide stalls...but have too many horses now.....so if I could afford another, I'd turn to Turnbow again. Good luck!!! Let us know what you found, so I can have trailer envy :)

Does anyone have experience using the 2+1 at horse shows and leaving a horse in the box stall while you ride the other horse. I'd love to know if it really does work for that purpose. I would never leave them in there all day or overnight.

I'm a Sundowner dealer and lots of my customers have 2+1 trailers and love them. We customize them with stud doors to separate the 2 box stalls and then each stall has a ramp and overhead roof vents, tie rings and often an escape door (allows you to check the horses without opening the ramp). If anyone wants details and floorplans, feel free to contact me at trailers@fuse.net.

I just bought at 2+1 that is set up so the horses can ride facing rear. The inside can be reconfigured any number of ways. It has a 5 foot wide side ramp, a rear ramp, an escape door in the box stall, and a door into the tack room. I bought this trailer "off the lot".
I have only had it for 3 weeks but have taken my troublesome horse on 3 trips totalling 550 miles so far. This is my third Hawk trailer (they keep getting bigger) and I have been absolutely thrilled with the customer service and quality of the trailers.
Feel free to PM me if you would like more information.

Dittos on Hawks and Risa at Happy Trails!
I have a "not quite" 2+1 gooseneck w. DR. It's a two horse, reverse load with a ditch side ramp and a rear ramp. I ordered a little extra room behind the two horses for ease of loading (which turns out I didn't need) and storage of hay bales and shavings (so after all, the extra room is real handy!)
With a little more room still, this would be a "real 2+1", but more trailer than I need.
Risa helped me customize my trailer, held my hand through the whole experience, and had it delivered right to my barn from the factory. I am SO PLEASED with this trailer! So is my horse, and any horse that rides in it. Even though it's a little different from what most horses around here see, they all load easily and ride backwards very happily.
Plus, my trailer was several thousand dollars cheaper than a comparable trailer from another manufacturer.

I absolutely love my 4Star 2+1. Got it from Frank Dibella and he usually has some in stock - often new and used.
It is a dream to work out of. I did not get the stud doors and wish I had them. Hopefully I will get them installed one of these days. Other than that it is perfect. I do leave one on the trailer, but in the straight stall. Honestly, since it is so roomy they seem to be quite content.

Viney, why do you say C&C is out of business? They seemed awfully "in business" a few weeks ago at Rolex?
I have a C&C and ADORE It. Literally takes a beating like you can not believe.

I talked to the C&C dealer who was at Rolex, and he confirmed that C&C had gone under. They were just selling the few that they still had in stock. The 2+1 was the last new one, and they had a used one coming in in a few weeks, but that was essentially it. The big 4 horse or 6 horse was the dealer's personal trailer. He said that they were now going to carry Eby's and 4 Star. Mostly Eby, I think.
I fell in love with the C&C 2+1 but it was sold, and he had a waiting list for the used one. Great deal for whoever gets it though. The welds on those trailers are works of art.

A friend of ours has an Eby 2+1 and it is a very nice trailer. We have a C&C 5 horse head to head and love it. We use it a lot as a two box stall trailer to take youngsters to schooling shows and such. Works great. While one is "working" the other one learns to "hang out", eat hay and be patient ;). I love the room in the center for all the stuff, that then doesn't have to be in the dressing room. Our dressing room is 6' and we have made it into a nice camper.

I have my dream Gore Kentucky Special built (2 +1 with side ramp and 5 ft DR - 7'6" tall and extra wide but not longer than 29 feet) - can't find a used Gore to save my life - now just have to get the money (or win the lottery:lol:)
Around these parts, Gores are king!
