I'm having much difficulty finding underwear that does not chafe! I'm currently riding dressage, jumping and even foxhunt and need something soft and comfortable for long hours in the saddle.
Any suggestions???:(

Patagonia Active Briefs. Order a size down from what you normally wear.

"Body glide" from a sporting store - it comes in a convenient stick tube and you rub it over wherever the trouble spots are before hand.
Or go with my usual "less is more" mode - thong or commando, at least the riding up problem is conquered ! ;-/

How the heck can it be that someone can't figure what knickers to wear without resorting to posting on a bulletin board?!

Under Armour. It's much easier for fellas, a much more limited selection and no concerns with VPL. You also don't have to sit ON it with a seam and bunched up knicker elastic rubbing on your delicate bits. So just stop your whining Thomas !

i've found that at different evolutionary phases of my riding career i've needed different "knickers" as Thomas put it.
Depending on what your specific issue is at this time you may want to just start a pantie collection.
i'm in the 'a thong is most comfortable but im getting saddle sores under my left seatbone' phase which equals bandaids, moleskin, and lung lessons.
ain't this fun?
my collection has
men's boxer briefs (shut up)
cotton panties with the elastic covered in cotton
thongs (if you are not a thong wearer, i reccomend getting educated on them. I used to think they were uncomfortable until i realized a. the correct size and b. the correct style make all the difference)
comando
bike shorts complete with chamois (i cycle, so easy to substitute)
panty hose with the legs cut off

Ditto the Under Armour. And they come in thong, bikini/hipster and boy short styles.

Thanks to those who are understanding...:o
It's a lot harder than I thought. Ha ha. I ride in full-seat breeches that I prefer (since there is thicker material between me and the saddle) over knee patch (except when I have to follow traditional attire). I just started foxhunting this past year, so not until now have I spent 4-5 hours in the saddle at one time.
Oh, and I'm female if that helps. :) I will check out these suggestions. Thank you!

Spanx, or my personal favorite Harley-Davidson thongs  for some reason they are just the most comfortable.

If you are considering Under Armour, unless they are the bike short style, the boy short style might not work. If you look at the stitching on the hem, quite frankly, that stuff looks like it would rub. I grabbed them one day and got up to the register and noticed it and put them right back.
I've been wearing the boy shorts from Target and they seem to work fine. Also, surprisingly, Calvin Klein boyshorts. Honestly, I'm not big on how tight the waistband is on the Under Armour bike shorts that I have (I'm a size 4) but they don't chafe.
Target's brand of Champion workout gear's boyshort (can't remember the name) is good but only on one horse. After a few horses, the hem on those things, combined with some heat and sweat totally tore my a$$ up. Thomas'll love that last part.

Try Jockey Hi Cut briefs for women, I got some at BJ's and they appear to be good, no front seams.

I wear strechy cotton boyshorts. No rubs, and no panty lines! :)

VPL and your seat bones have to sit on the leg elastic.

OOouuuch!!!
The original Cotton Panties from V. Secret are really comfortable. Or thongs, if you're comfortable with them. I'm young enough that I care about panty lines...some people aren't bothered by them though.

OOOOhh, I love underwear threads. You might do a search on the endurance/trail forum. One thread there mentioned duct tape on the OUTSIDE of the crotch of the underpants as a remedy for chafing. I threatened to try this but havent yet. Solved my own chafing issues with sheepskin seat savers and by becoming accustomed to longer hours in the saddle.
Warning, if you are young as opposed to menopausal--chafing issues increase exponentially as nature's padding and lubrication decrease when midlife assaults one's girl parts.
