what do you wear to ride in?

Breeches & tall boots, always. I used to ride in jeans/half chaps and not really care. But, then I'd get to a show and wonder why my saddle felt so slippery, or why I couldn't seem to get a good grip with my tall boots. I decided that riding in breeches & boots every day would make show days less of a shock. It's also helped my position since I have to work for it instead of just clinging on with jeans and nice sticky suede chaps :)

For me it depends on which saddle I'm using! The Hermes is definitely breeches and boots; western sidesaddle - western styled apron; older dressage saddle - either breeches/boots or jeans/chaps; bareback pad - jeans/chaps. They say variety is the spice of life!!

Jeans and half chaps. Would like to get back into breeches, but currently look like I'm smuggling hams and would rather not subject my dear instructor to my two-point.

Jeans are safest. ;)

Jeans and short shoe/boots. Tee shirt - usually with my farm logo on it. Mickey Mouse helmet - I made the ears myself. I ruined my feet wearing boots all my waking hours. I go from riding to walking in half a heart beat - too much to do to change my foot wear!

I choose breeches and boots, but I also frequently wear schooling tights and paddock boots.

shiny spandex tights, big oversize t shirt, hiking boots, Tipperary helmet. Local cowboys sure give us funny looks when we show up at the local trails (I ride endurance) If it's a clinic, then jeans and a polo

Thats my attire until fall.

Breeches, ariat terrains, and half chaps. Occasionally jeans (for a trail ride or something) and terrains, no half chaps.

I voted breeches and boots but actually I ride in breeches, half chaps and paddock boots.

I don't like riding in jeans as they are hot, rub me, don't fit under my half chaps and I'm protective about my saddle. I've read and been told that jeans are hard on saddles so I want to take good care of my County saddle!!! It's the only saddle I have and it has to last me a long time since it cost way more than my horse!!!

Well, sometimes I wear boots and breeches, sometimes I wear pull-on riding tights (but not too tight) and paddock boots, sometimes I wear jeans and paddock boots, sometimes I wear jeans and cowboy boots, sometimes I wear jeans and cowboy boots and full chaps.

I've never worn half chaps. Think I've got some in the garage, the kid used them when he rode, but I think they are too big for me. Never appealed to me anyway, particularly.

And as a kid, thought nothing of riding all day bareback and in shorts. Come to think of it, have ridden w/shorts in saddles too.

I ride in both breeches and jeans. Just depends on what is clean. :D

Jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. I'd ride in shorts if my fat didn't get pinched between the stirrup leathers.

Breeches and boots for schooling if I plan to show that season; breeches and paddock boots with half chaps for schooling otherwise. Jeans, paddock boots and half chaps for trail riding unless I plan on a long day in the saddle, in which case I'll wear breeches for comfort.

I voted breeches and boots but I actually wear breeches and riding sneakers. I'm a little too "fluffy" to wear high boots  and the sneakers are much more comfortable for both riding and for doing chores.

 although I just ordered some tall boots, fingers crossed for fit!

I haven't been able to find a pair to fit my short, muscular calves (ugh and running just makes them worse). Thought I found a pair that would fit around, and they technically should have, but I guess the manufacturer thought that if you have muscular calves, that you should also be about 6' tall. As a result the wide part of my leg starts before the wide part of the boot. ARGH! I'm so frustrated! Anyway, sorry for highjacking the thread with my vent!

Check the Womanly Sized Riders thread, it has tons of info on larger calved boots!

I'm actually worried these will be too big, but we'll see when I get them :)

Yeah, I've read it. I think I found the recommendation for the boots that almost fit from that thread. I think I'm just a freak of nature.

Breeches or riding tights (anything Irideon), half-chaps and riding sneakers. I own a pair of tall boots but they're reserved for hunting (if I ever get the chance to go!)...

Me too. I do wear long shorts in the summer.

Growing up riding Saddle Seat we always wore tennis shoes. so when we went to shows and got in our boots, our feet were perfect.
The only time I wear boots is if it's cold. That isnt that often in Florida.

Breeches and tall boots. I recently discovered that my jeans destroy my saddle. =( If I'm riding bareback I'll ride in jeans though.

If I wear breeches to the barn, breeches with half chaps and my muck boots.

If I wear running pants (or on the VERY rare occasion I wear shorts), those with full chaps and the muck boots. I don't like destroying the inner seams of my running pants with riding. However, if you really want to learn how to stay in the saddle, ride in shiny spandex without half chaps. That'll teach you how to sit a buck!

I used to ride in jeans/half chaps, but started wearing my boots to break them in. I soon realized that they're very comfortable, and there is no learning curve when I go to a show. I've also started riding at another lady's barn some to help exercise, and that is SOP there. Breeches & boots.

Normally Breeches and tall boots, but lately I have been getting up at 6:30 and riding before work, and it's winter time here, down to neg 1 degrees at night, so I have been wearing jeans and a million layers of sweart, vest, coat and waterproof shell jacket, But I felt guilty about ruining my nice saddle, so plan to stop soon!

Qbaby Riding jeans and Probaby boots... :D

Oh yeah! Those qBaby jeans are the most comfortable real jeans that I've ever ridden in!

I usually ride in jeans or leggings, cowboy boots (or hiking boots with leggings), and a tshirt. Sometimes I'll get brave and ride in shorts, but I try to save myself the pain...

Jeans have that thick seam right in the privet part area... I can't imagine doing lots of sitting trot and rubbing on that thick seam... I'm cringing now...

No, I ride in the soft and comfy breeches. May be I'm too much of the "princess on a pea" but it makes a huge difference for me.

Q-baby jeans have flat seams... They are made for riding but can be worn out if you wanted.
