Ok, I lost my mind for a few minutes. Had the tube set, rushed to get horses done, they get to the gate and POOF, out it goes. Said I had to be a subscriber to get NBC. Oh yea, some words were flung. Had to listen to it on radio! Radio!! Then I hear that the blackout happened to someone else, and since Dish is now tired of my rantings, I want to know if we were the only two blacked out in Ohio.

You are not alone!!!! It happened to me too!! I was PI$$ED!!!!! I had to call a friend of mine who called the race for me over the phone-- I hit the Trifecta-- so I was happy about the outcome, but really ticked off that I didn't get to see it live.

Yep, DISH went out on me too, right as they were getting ready to load into the starting gate. Thing is, we were having storms here, so that's why the DISH went wonky. I think the neighbors probably heard me "exclaiming" when the signal went out.

BUT, good ole COTH to the rescue! I rushed to my computer and checked this forum - sure enough, there was a thread with a link to see it live (JustinTV, or something like that). Thanks to whomever posted that link - I was able to catch the race shortly after they broke from the gate. :)

Ohhhh, yeah. I turned into a 5'3 110 lb bundle of uncaged fury. Remotes were thrown. DISH was called - in blatant disregard of the "Please do not call - we are working on this problem. . ." message on the screen. I blistered some ears on the other end of the line.

I invented new and colorful combinations of all of the standard cusswords. Finally, all I could do was turn on TVG because I knew they would have results as soon as they were available.

In 7 years, DISH has NEVER let me down this way.

Same here in North Carolina. . . I had choice words with the billing department. . . to no avail, but I felt better afterwards.

Yep, happened here in Florida too. Ditto on the "called a friend who called the race for me" and "turned to TVG for replay" but I was sooooo irritated:mad::mad:. I didn't bother to call DISH because I wanted to at least hear the race.

Ironic for me - the only reason we have Dish instead of cable is because cable does not offer TVG or HRTV here. Meh.

Dish Network and the Preakness --did you blackout?

The race was indeed thrilling but no need to blackout from seeing such a display

Oh did you mean the tv service blacked out ;)

:D

If its any consolation the Rolex 3-D was not aired in Chicago on NBC-5 (or if it was then it was not listed on the DVD upcoming shows) so not everyone saw what they wanted to that day with horse programs.

Yes... well, I was at my friend's house (Lewisburg, PA) and she has Dish. We set the DVR to record Rolex and the Preakness, as well as NBC Nightly News in case the race somehow ran over time. Then went to her barn job to do evening feed. When we got back we tried to watch the race. It had recorded as two items. The first one went up to about when the horses came out on the track. The second one picked up after the race was over! Luckily I had set my VCR at home so I was able to watch it when I got back, but I was pretty mad that I knew who won before I got to see it.

I have Dish, and all of my local channels were out all afternoon (so I didn't get to see the Rolex highlights, either ). I didn't call, because I was more intent on watching the race on someone else's TV who just had regular ol' cable.

I've had lots of trouble with Dish and local channels - and always with that "No need to call" message. Pretty soon I'm going to start calling anyway. If it weren't for the fact that I share the connection with someone else, I'd get rid of it altogether and just get regular cable, which seems to be far more reliable. :sigh:

Yes, ours went out also. My theory is that NBC needed to get in more cash so hoped everyone would rush to the internet to pay their lousy $15 to watch the race. No other channeles wer out just NBC. No wonder it is called "The National Bolshevik Company". Phooey on them.

Yeah! Me, too! And we blacked out, too!

I have the Dish, and love it, but it does tend to go out for the weeniest of storms. It went out on me Friday for the filly race, but there were some major storms. I saw the replay on TVG which i have really learned to love. No problem on Saturday, but Sunday morning, all my local channels were out! Don't know what the problem was but I would have burst a vessel if I had gotten a message like that. I got the Dish because of the LOUSY local service from Comcast, and the fact they were dropping more and more channels. TVG wasn't offered that I am aware of but I must say, in over 12 years with them my service was almost never out. We had a major big ice storm and my power was out for only half an hour, when the lights came back on, I had my cable. A lot of the city had no power for two weeks. If something like that cost me the Derby or grade 1 race, I would look hard back at cable.

Same here. We were watching in Connecticut, and NBC blacked out just as the horses went out on the track (actually, all the local channels did).

Thanks to this forum we found justinTV, of course my mom didn't have the required plugin, and we had to download it and restart- got it all going JUST as the gate opened.

Mine went out as well. I tried getting it on my computer to no avail. I love the dish ads on TV....they have a guy saying that the cable companies are trying to make it seem like Dish loses it's signal all the time and during storms and "that's just not true...." WHATEVER. It went out earlier in the day before it even stormed. I watched the replay after the local channels came back on.

Dish was good here. The DVR did it's job. I would have been some kind of p*ssed had it gone out! I watched it again yesterday.

Here too: All locals went out right before the race.

So which idjet was playing with the switches?????
Jack Bauer needs to investigate this one and bring that person to justice.

Glimmer--snork. It happened right as they were close to the gate and the screen said that I must be a subscriber to get that channel. Really? NBC? We saw it replayed on HRTV but it's just not the same when you know how it turned out. I'm still furious.

Nancy

PS How do you scan and post a photo...Glimmer, I have one of your favorite horse as a 2 year old. He was then very dark and handsome.

Yes, it went out here as well. Thank God we also get NBC channel just over the airwaves so we were able to switch to that.

Local channels went out here too. First time that's ever happened in the two years I've had Dish Network.

yes, we had a houseful of people for a Preakness Party and when the Dish network went down I could not belive it. My husband called and raised cain and they are giving us a $50. credit. Well big deal, I missed the live running of a race that I waited days for.

Yep, went out in Ga. to. And I didn't even get to see Rolex because it wasn't aired like it was suppose to be either in Ga. I was not a happy person. I called a friend that called the race for me and got on NBC sports site and saw the last few seconds of the race.

Hi All,
Here in scenic exciting Bolton Valley, Vermont the Dish went out right as the horses hit the track. I got the old run-around about us not subscribing to NBC....yeah whatever.

Let's just say that the ski runs echoed with my screaming and neighbors wondered what was going on. I tuned back over to TVG (go TVG!) and waited until they could legally air the race.

Growl. Snarl. This isn't the first time Dish has done something like this.

I think I'll phone and make them miserable again....
