Your local NBC affiliate before the Preakness on Saturday.

LessonLearned
May. 15, 2009, 09:27 PM
It will be on NBC at 3:30 tomorrow before the Preakness. Although there might be a pressing basket weaving competition that runs over, so who knows. . . ;)

I had my DVR set to record it the minute Bob Hughes announced when it would run...and now it's GONE. It weas listed right before the Preakness, and now the schedule says XTERRA cycling and Rolex is gone from my to do list.

Anyone else???

Gah. My TV is just saying "Regular Schedule" from like 1:30 on. Let's hope that's it?
Really people how hard is it to label things? "Rolex" "Preakness" How nice

thats what I have too, Rolex at 330 eastern, Preakness at 430 on NBC

Ajierene
May. 16, 2009, 02:50 PM
I live in an area where I get two NBC channels. NBC WCAU (I think this is Philly) shows paid programming, followed by Equestrian:Rolex Championships at 330, followed by Preakness.

NBC WBAL (Almost positive this is Baltimore) shows '11 News Preakness Special' from 230 until 430.

Probably an area thing, then....(which is why I am glad I live in a border area...more chance at getting to see what I want on the major channels).

Just told my boyfriend about it, so hopefully not talk of the unfortunate incident. He already doesn't want me to get back on the pony that flipped over with me last summer, landing me in the hospital....try competing this summer with him giving me looks for 'taking my life in my hands'. (Can you tell he's non-horsey?)

Well, paid programming over now...NBC said something about Rolex, but sport news right now...annoying. The other NBC channel is having Pre-Preakness news (right up there with the Football pregame show..)

So far, very impressed with Rolex show. They pretty much skipped dressage, except a few bits of Bettina Hoy that showed how beautiful dressage could be, without boring people.

Cross Country is what they are focusing on now, hopefully they will show stadium also - but these two a much more exciting for someone who knows nothing about horse, the sport, or both. So far, the commentary sounds knowledgeable.

I am thoroughly impressed with this show. It was 'quick and dirty', but it managed to still be a great show with a nice opening that drew you in and keeping the pace quick to keep the viewers, some of whom know nothing about the sport or horses, interested.

hopefully they will show WEG in more regions and allot more time for dressage (though we REALLY don't need to see EVERYONE....maybe just the favorites).

Preakness now.

I was thinking it was his age too, and that maybe it would've been a better idea to be more conservative with him, allowing a student to ride at a lower level or taking him to a less difficult event. I mean, it's one thing to get tired towards the end of the course, but he was pretty iff they whole way around.

Is anyone else ticked that out of an hour's worth of air time, only about 20 minutes was actually about the horses? I've never seen so many commercials!! ARGH! haha

Commercials were very limited where I was watching. One or two, mostly Rolex related. There was one odd commercial for Just For Men (I have no idea what gray haired man would be watching this and thinking, yeah, my horse will respect me more if I dye my hair...). It was almost an hour of horse stuffs.

NOTE: All other NBC affiliates apparently need to follow the model of WCAU.

This particular horse looked tired/struggling all weekend, IME.

By the time SJ rolled around, it was really hard to watch. That horse has a huge heart and really tries but a CCI**** is really a lot to ask of him at this point.

The farrier showed up late to put the shoe back on my horse. I haven't been able to ride for 3 days so I was trying to tack up and get on, and the bottom fell out complete with lightning that struck near the barn. Okay, so I'll just drive home and watch Rolex.

Not only was Rolex pre-empted in my area by body-building people trying to sell a doorjamb thing for pull-ups...but then the horses had just broken from the start in the Preakness and the weather service issued a t'storm warning that lasted until the race was over.

GAAAAAAAAH!

One year, we were walking thru Rolex and everyone that knows us kept yelling over 'Hey, you're in the Chronicle!' We're all going whaaaat? That is just not even posssible. Sure enough there we were in the Rolex issue, a photo highlighting an article on the trade fair - the whole family strolling thru from the year before, with the family dog dragging us along. Not really an ace photograph, we still went whaaaat???

I was out this afternoon at a clinic, a neighbor recorded the Rolex for me. I haven't seen it yet. Any dressage?? esp the winning rides?

What happened to the Rolex Equestrian Championships that were going to be broadcast today, 5/16, at 2:30pm? I planned my day around watching this but now there is an infomercial on instead.
And got this response:
I'm sorry but our program information has again been reported
incorrectly. We did not have this program on our schedule. It was
initially to air on May 3, but was preempted due to the NHL overrun.
NBC gave its affiliates the option to air it, but since our schedule was
set, we unable to make the change. I apologize for the inconvenience

I have a friend here from out of town who wanted to watch the coverage of Rolex with me as she knows I go every year. She wanted to know how they could make something she is sure must be exciting so unbelievably boring.

She knows enough about eventing to know the 3 phases, etc but she said that someone who didn't know the sport would turn it off in a matter of minutes since you couldn't even really tell what was going on.

I know people say that some coverage is better than none but it certainly isn't doing anything to interest people in the sport.
